Peoplesearchnow opt out with Removal Lab

Written by the Removal Lab team.

Searched your own name and found your home address, phone number and every place you have lived on PeopleSearchNow? The PeopleSearchNow opt out is free: you enter your name and email on its opt out page, open the link it emails you within 24 hours and fill in the form to match your record. PeopleSearchNow says to allow three days for the request to be fully processed. Removal Lab can also do the PeopleSearchNow opt out for you.

Many people type it as “People Search Now opt out”. It is the same site. We built this guide from PeopleSearchNow’s own opt out page, its opt out form, its notice at collection, its Do Not Sell page, its help page and its contact page. Its privacy policy and terms pages turned our checker away, so where a detail lives only there, we say so.

The quick version: PeopleSearchNow opt out

  1. Find your record on PeopleSearchNow and note the details it shows.
  2. Open the PeopleSearchNow opt out page, enter your name and email, complete the captcha and press Begin Removal Process.
  3. Open the link PeopleSearchNow emails you within 24 hours. Older links expire.
  4. Fill in the form so it matches the record you want removed, then submit it.
  5. Keep the confirmation email and allow three days for processing.

How to opt out of PeopleSearchNow step by step

Step 1. Find the record that is you

Search PeopleSearchNow for your name and look for the record with your current or past addresses. Note your middle name, your age and the addresses it lists. The opt out page warns that missing or inaccurate details can slow the process, so the closer your form matches the record, the better.

Step 2. Request your opt out link

Open the PeopleSearchNow opt out page. The first form asks who you are: the subject of the request or an authorised agent of the subject. Enter your first name, last name and email address. A middle name is optional. Agree to the consent statement, complete the captcha and press Begin Removal Process.

Step 3. Open the email within 24 hours

PeopleSearchNow emails you a link to the main opt out form. It says the email may take a while to arrive and that links expire after 24 hours. If you miss that window, start again and request a new link.

Step 4. Match the form to your record

The emailed link opens the form where you describe the record you want removed. Use the details you noted in Step 1. If you are an agent filing for someone else, the link goes to your email and the confirmations go to both you and the person you represent.

Step 5. Keep the confirmation

When you finish, PeopleSearchNow shows a confirmation page and sends a confirmation email. It asks you to allow three days for the request to be fully processed. Save that email. It is your record of the PeopleSearchNow opt out.

PeopleSearchNow’s Do Not Sell page says you can also call 888 553 5506 to opt out of the sale or sharing of your information. Its notice at collection gives the same number for privacy requests.

What PeopleSearchNow shows and where it gets data

PeopleSearchNow’s help page says it aggregates public records from across the United States. Its notice at collection lists what it may disclose and sell.

What PeopleSearchNow showsWhere the site says so
Full name, address and phone numberHelp page
Past and present addresses and phone numbersHelp page, people search
Names of current and previous tenants at an addressHelp page, address lookup
Real name, alias and current and former postal addressesNotice at collection, identifiers
Gender, age and marital statusNotice at collection, protected characteristics
Property or business record informationNotice at collection

The notice at collection says PeopleSearchNow may sell identifiers, search criteria, protected characteristics, property records and inferences to customers and business partners. It also says its data products use public records, which it says are not covered by state privacy laws.

PeopleSearchNow says it is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Its pages say the site cannot be used for employment, credit or tenant screening.

Who runs it? None of the pages we opened name a company behind the site. They use the names PeopleSearchNow.com and People Search Now. The contact page gives a mailing address in Grand Rapids, Michigan and a customer care number, 313 484 4789.

What the PeopleSearchNow opt out does and does not remove

What you want goneDoes the PeopleSearchNow opt out cover it?What PeopleSearchNow says
The record you matched on the formYesAllow three days for the request to be fully processed
Sale or sharing of your informationYes, through the Do Not Sell pageIt will try to apply the request to publicly available information it collects, as a courtesy
The data at its original sourceNoThe request will not remove the data from its original source, so it may still appear on other sites
Records that arrive laterNot for goodNew public records may make your information appear in its data products again
Cookie tracking on its websiteNo, separate settingAdjust your cookie settings or send an opt out signal such as Global Privacy Control

The help page also says PeopleSearchNow removes sensitive people from its public records. It names public figures, politicians, women who are victims of domestic violence and certain people whose records courts tell it to remove. If that is you, use the contact form, include the URL of your listing and explain your situation. If someone is using your address to threaten you, read our doxxing removal page too.

Other sites draw on the same kind of public records. See our guides to the TruePeopleSearch opt out, the FastPeopleSearch opt out and the Social Catfish opt out.

California rights and the PeopleSearchNow opt out

Californians have two extra tools. The California Consumer Privacy Act gives you the right to ask a business to delete personal information it collected from you, to stop selling or sharing it and to tell you what it holds. The Attorney General says businesses must respond within 45 calendar days and can extend that by another 45 days if they tell you. You can also let an authorised agent send the request for you.

The second tool is DROP, the state’s free Delete Request and Opt out Platform. CalPrivacy says one request goes to over 600 registered data brokers. Data brokers must now check DROP at least once every 45 days and process the deletion requests waiting there. You verify that you live in California with basic information. We could not confirm from the registry download whether PeopleSearchNow is on the current list, so check the California data broker registry before you rely on DROP for it.

One limit catches people out. The Attorney General’s CCPA page says personal information does not include publicly available information, such as public property records. So a California request may not reach everything PeopleSearchNow shows.

PeopleSearchNow makes a similar point about its own data. Its notice at collection says public records are not covered by state privacy laws. That is why the PeopleSearchNow opt out form matters even for Californians.

How to clear the old Google result

Opting out of PeopleSearchNow does not change Google straight away. An old result can keep showing your details for a while after the page itself has changed. Google gives you free tools for this.

  1. Remove a result that still shows your contact details. Search your name, select More next to the result, then Remove result, then It shows my personal info and I don’t want it there, then Contact Info. Our guide on removing personal information from Google walks through each screen.
  2. Refresh a result for a page that has changed or gone. Google’s Refresh Outdated Content tool asks Google to update its results. You sign in with a Google account and paste the address. Google says a request shows as Pending while it is processed and that this can take a few days. See our guide to the Refresh Outdated Content tool.
  3. Set an alert. Results about you can tell you when new results show your personal info. Our guide on how to use Google Results about you shows how to switch it on.

Google is clear that removing a result from Search does not remove the information from the website. The page itself has to change first, which is why the opt out comes before the Google step. Wait the three days PeopleSearchNow asks for before you ask Google to refresh the result.

If your listing comes back

PeopleSearchNow’s Do Not Sell page recommends refreshing your request from time to time, because new public records can bring your information back. Build that into your routine.

An example: a new flat and an old address

This is a made up example to show the steps. It is not a client case.

Marcus moved to a new flat in Phoenix after a break up. A friend sent him a PeopleSearchNow page showing his old address, his new one and his phone number.

  1. He finds his record and notes his middle name, age and both addresses.
  2. He enters his name and email on the PeopleSearchNow opt out page and presses Begin Removal Process.
  3. The email arrives later that evening. He opens the link the same night, well inside 24 hours.
  4. He fills in the form to match his record and saves the confirmation email.
  5. Three days later he searches again, then uses Google’s Remove result flow for an old result that still shows his phone number.

PeopleSearchNow processes the request. Marcus kept the details matched and the dates recorded, which is what makes a refresh simple next time.
