Multi location review removal with Removal Lab

Written by the Removal Lab team.

Running twelve locations and just woke up to the same one star review on four of them? Multi location review removal means finding reviews that break Google’s rules across every branch and reporting each one on the right profile, with the right evidence. Removal Lab checks a whole portfolio for free, with no upfront payment on qualifying cases.

A specialist replies within one business day. Removal Lab does not work for Google and cannot delete anything. Google decides on every review. We only report reviews that break the rules, never honest criticism of a branch that had a bad day.

This guide covers how Google handles brands with many locations, who can report a review on each profile, what to do when one fake review appears on several profiles or a review lands on the wrong branch, how franchise ownership affects all of it and a tracker you can copy. Every Google fact comes from Google’s own help pages, linked at the end.

How Google Business Profile handles multiple locations

Google treats each branch as its own profile. Its Business Profile guidelines say not to create more than one page for each location, in one account or several. They also say all locations in the same country must use the same name, unless a distinct name is applied consistently. All locations must also share the one category that best represents the business. A franchisee that is an authorised and fully dedicated seller of the brand may use the brand name.

To run many profiles, Google offers business groups. Google describes them as a more secure way to share access with colleagues than sharing one account’s username and password. Owners and managers added to a group can access all current and future profiles in it. You can still add owners and managers to individual profiles inside a group. For multi location review removal, a business group is the cleanest setup because one team can see every profile.

Bulk verification for chains

Google’s bulk verification page says it applies to accounts with 10 or more locations of the same business. Only business owners or authorised representatives may verify. Google says service area businesses are not eligible and agencies with more than one business in one account cannot bulk verify. You request it in Business Profile Manager under Verifications, then Chain, then Start. Google asks for a spreadsheet of every profile you manage. Google may contact you for more information and may revoke bulk verification for abuse.

Why this matters for multi location review removal: a review can only be handled cleanly when you know who controls each profile. A brand with half its locations verified under head office and half under individual franchisees will struggle to act quickly when a wave of fake reviews arrives.

Who can report a review on each location profile

Google’s help page on reporting reviews describes reporting a review from your Business Profile: open the reviews, click the report icon next to the review, choose a reason and send the report. You then follow it in the Reviews Management Tool, which asks you to confirm the email address associated with the Business Profile. Google says review evaluation typically takes several days. If a review is not removed, you get a one time appeal and can select up to 10 reviews per appeal.

Google’s page on owners and managers sets out what each role can do. Both owners and managers can respond to reviews. The roles page does not say which role may report a review, so the safe course is simple: whoever files reports for a location should hold owner or manager access on that exact profile and use the email linked to it. Sorting this out first saves time in multi location review removal.

RoleWhat Google says it can doWhat it means for reporting reviews
Primary ownerOne per profile. Cannot leave until primary ownership is transferred to someone else.Decide who this is for every location before a dispute starts.
OwnerFull control, including adding or removing users and deleting the profile. Can respond to reviews and give access to the person who files reports.
ManagerMostly the same access as owners, except adding or removing users or removing the profile. Can respond to reviews. A safe role for a head office team or an outside helper.
Business group owner or managerAccess to all current and future profiles in the group. One place to see every location, without sharing passwords.

Google also says it does not get involved in conflicts between businesses and customers and asks owners not to report a review just because they disagree with it. Multi location review removal only works on reviews that break Google’s rules. Our guide to disputing a Google review walks through the steps for a single profile.

The same fake review on several profiles

Copies of one fake review across a brand’s profiles are a common pattern in multi location review removal. The text may be identical or lightly reworded, posted by one account or several within a short time.

Google’s Maps content policy covers this in more than one place. Under fake engagement it bans content that is not based on a real experience and content posted from multiple accounts by or at the request of one person. Under repetitive content it bans posting the same content multiple times from the same account or multiple accounts. Under conflict of interest it bans content from current or former employees and others with a conflict. It also bans posting on a competitor’s place to undermine it.

If the copies look like a rival’s work, our page on fake review removal explains the evidence that tends to help.

Reviews meant for another branch

A customer has a bad experience at the airport branch and posts on the city centre profile. The review may be genuine, but it is on the wrong place. Google’s off topic rules say people should only post content based on their experience at a specific location. Its fake engagement rules also cover content that does not accurately represent the location in question.

Report the review with the reason that fits and keep your evidence private. Never post a customer’s booking details in a public reply. A short, polite reply that points the customer to the right branch helps readers and shows you are listening. Google makes the final decision, so treat a misplaced review as a customer service issue first and a multi location review removal case second. Our guide on how to respond to a negative Google review has wording that keeps things calm.

Franchise agreements and who owns the profile

Ownership questions can stall multi location review removal, so settle them early. This is general guidance, not legal advice. Your franchise agreement and local law decide who owns what, so ask a lawyer about your own agreement.

On Google’s side, the roles are clear. Google says owners have full control of a profile, a profile has only one primary owner and the primary owner cannot leave until they transfer that role. To take over a profile, the guidelines say the previous owner must add you as an owner and transfer ownership. If you cannot reach them, Google’s request ownership process emails the current owner, who has 3 days to respond. If there is no response, you may have the option to claim the profile. A rejected request can be appealed.

A location tracker you can copy

Review management for multiple locations falls apart without one shared record. Copy this layout into a spreadsheet with one row per review. It is the same structure Removal Lab uses for multi location review removal.

Keep proof out of public replies

In multi location review removal, customer records belong in your tracker and in your report to Google, never in a public reply. Privacy breaches in replies can cause more harm than the review.

Review bombing across locations

A news story, a viral post or a grudge can trigger fake one star reviews on every branch of a brand at once. The signs are the same as on a single profile: a sudden spike, reviewers with no visit on record and the same complaint repeated. Our page on review bombing removal covers the signs and the reporting steps in detail. When you need to remove reviews across locations after a wave, multi location review removal follows the same steps, one profile at a time.

Do not answer a wave with fake positive reviews at any location. Google’s page on Business Profile restrictions says that where it finds fake engagement, it may stop a profile receiving new reviews for a set period, unpublish existing reviews for a set period or show a warning that fake reviews were removed. Google says it emails owners before applying a restriction and allows an appeal. In a portfolio, one branch doing this can hurt the whole brand.

Review management for multiple locations: a simple routine

Good review management for multiple locations makes multi location review removal faster, because the evidence is already logged.

  1. Check every profile weekly. New reviews on quiet branches are easy to miss.
  2. Reply on time. Owners and managers can respond on each profile. Keep a short, calm house style.
  3. Log anything suspicious. One row per review in the tracker, with the policy ground you think applies.
  4. Look across locations. Search for the same text or reviewer on other profiles before reporting.
  5. Report and follow up. Use the report icon on each profile and the Reviews Management Tool for status and appeals.

Industry details matter too. See our pages on review removal for restaurants and hotels and review removal for car dealerships, where multi site groups are common.

What we will never do

A made up example of multi location review removal

This is a made up example to show the steps. It is not a client case.

A coffee chain runs nine locations, six owned by franchisees and three by head office. On a Monday, four of the profiles each receive a one star review saying the staff were rude and the coffee was cold. The wording is almost identical. None of the reviewer names match a loyalty account or a card payment at any branch.

Head office asks Removal Lab for multi location review removal help. We add each review to the tracker and note the matching text. We check who holds access to each profile: two franchisees never added head office as a manager, so each franchise owner adds a manager from their own owner account. No passwords change hands.

Each review is reported on its own profile as not based on a real experience and as content posted from multiple accounts by one person. Google keeps one of the four at first, so the appeal goes in with the pattern described. A fifth review, about a branch the reviewer clearly confused with another, is reported as off topic and answered politely. What Google removes is Google’s decision. That is multi location review removal and franchise review removal done the honest way.

Frequently asked questions

What is multi location review removal?

Multi location review removal is the work of finding reviews that break Google’s rules across every location of a brand and reporting each one on the profile where it appears. Removal Lab checks the whole portfolio for free and asks for no upfront payment on qualifying cases.

Can Google remove the same fake review from several locations at once?

Each review sits on one profile, so each copy is reported on its own profile. Google’s Reviews Management Tool lets you select up to 10 reviews in one appeal. Its policy also bans content posted from multiple accounts by or at the request of one person.

Who can report a review on a franchise location’s Google profile?

Google’s help page describes reporting from the Business Profile and checking reports in the Reviews Management Tool with the email linked to that profile. In practice, the person filing needs owner or manager access to that location.

What if a customer reviews the wrong branch?

Google’s policy asks people to post content based on their experience at a specific location. A review clearly about another branch can be reported, though Google makes the final call, so a polite reply pointing to the right branch helps too.

Does the franchisor or the franchisee own the Google Business Profile?

Google does not decide that for you. The franchise agreement and whoever holds the primary owner role on each profile do, so put it in writing and take legal advice on your own agreement.

How long does multi location review removal take?

Google says review evaluation typically takes several days. A portfolio takes longer only because there are more reviews to log and report. Every decision rests with Google.

What does Removal Lab charge for franchise review removal?

The portfolio check is free. On qualifying cases there is no upfront payment and you pay only when a review is removed. If a review does not break the rules, we say so and you owe nothing for it.
