Review removal London with Removal Lab

Written by the Removal Lab team.

Closed for a private party on Saturday, then woke up to a one star review about Saturday’s dinner? Review removal London businesses can rely on starts with the platform’s own rules: Removal Lab checks the review free and, when it breaks those rules, files a report with the evidence attached.

Genuine reviews stay up, even the harsh ones. UK law now expects that. Fake reviews, reviews from rivals, reviews that accuse you of crimes with no detail and reviews about a different business can be reported. A specialist replies within one business day. There is no upfront payment on qualifying cases.

Our review removal UK page covers the national rules. This page covers review removal London businesses actually face: the platforms restaurants, trades and clinics in the capital rely on, the London court where High Court defamation claims are issued, reviews that name people and how we work across the time difference.

Review removal London in one minute

Google, Trustpilot and TripAdvisor carry most of the weight, with Checkatrade and Rated People for trades and Doctify for clinics. In every review removal London case, the platform decides on its own rules. UK law bans fake reviews and also bans services that help businesses hide genuine ones, so we only report reviews that are fake or break the rules.

Google review removal London: the platforms that matter

A Soho restaurant lives on Google and TripAdvisor. A Hackney plumber lives on Checkatrade. A Harley Street clinic watches Doctify as closely as Google. Each site has different rules, so every review removal London case starts with the right rule on the right site. This is what each platform says in its own help pages.

Whatever the sector, Google is usually part of a review removal London case. Our Google review removal service page shows how we build those reports.

Restaurants, pubs and hotels: TripAdvisor and Google

TripAdvisor treats several things as fraud: owners or their agents reviewing their own business or competitors, offering incentives, writing reviews for guests and pressuring travellers to remove a negative review. Asking a guest to take a review down in return for a discount counts as fraud too. To report, use the Report problem with review flag at the bottom of the review. TripAdvisor says it researches complaints within 48 hours.

In hospitality, review removal London cases can turn on dates and bookings. A review about a night you were closed, a table nobody booked or a dish you have never served is worth checking. Pull the booking system export, the closure notice and the menu before you report. Our TripAdvisor review removal page has the full route. Our page on review removal for restaurants and hotels covers the other hospitality sites.

Trades: Checkatrade and Rated People

For trades, review removal London work runs against a clock. Checkatrade asks trades to report a review in its app within three months of publication if they believe it breaks its consumer guidelines. It says it checks all reviews, removes fakes and does not allow anonymous reviews. It also says a review is not removed just because the trade thinks it is unfair. A resolved issue does not lead to removal either, because the reviewer owns the review. For defamation it points to its Notice and Takedown Procedure. It tells trades to keep paperwork, photos and screenshots of the work.

Rated People only lets customers who found their tradesperson through Rated People leave a rating. Homeowners can update a rating, for example once an issue is resolved. Its ratings page does not describe a dispute process, so a rating from someone who never hired you through the site is a question to put to Rated People directly. Our review removal for contractors page covers the wider picture for trades.

Clinics and dental practices: Doctify and Google

Doctify says reviews must come from verified patients and are checked by trained staff and anti fraud software before they go live. It will not publish defamatory content, unsolicited medical advice or claims that cannot be checked without independent medical expertise. Negative reviews are not removed just for being negative. Anyone can report a review, its clinical governance committee reviews flagged feedback and a breaching review is archived. The decision can be appealed.

Clinics need extra care in review removal London work, because the reply can cause a bigger problem than the review. For dental teams, the General Dental Council’s standards bar posting information or comments about patients on social networking sites. So a reply should never confirm that the reviewer was a patient. Our review removal for dentists and doctors page goes further.

Trustpilot review removal London: online brands and services

Trustpilot applies the same rules across the UK. Reviews flagged as harmful or illegal are hidden while Trustpilot looks into them. Other flagged reviews stay visible during the investigation. Trustpilot also watches how businesses flag. It calls flagging too quickly or for the wrong reasons misuse. The penalties it lists for misusing the platform include a Consumer Warning on your profile and hiding your TrustScore. The step by step route is on our Trustpilot review removal page.

UK law that shapes review removal London cases

Three areas of law sit behind the platform rules: the fake review ban, defamation and data protection. London adds one detail that matters, which court hears the claim.

The fake review ban and what the CMA expects

Paragraph 13 of Schedule 20 to the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act bans fake reviews and concealed incentivised reviews. It defines a fake consumer review as one that claims to be based on a genuine experience but is not. The same paragraph bans offering services that help traders submit fake reviews or publish reviews in a misleading way. The CMA says it can now fine businesses up to 10% of global turnover for breaking consumer protection law.

The CMA’s fake reviews guidance spells out the other side. A trader may break the law by suppressing genuine negative or positive reviews. Traders should not deter negative reviews with threats of legal action, or edit, withhold or remove them. Review sites should give traders a public way to report suspected banned reviews. And when a site investigates, genuine reviews should not be removed merely because a trader objects.

What this means for review removal London clients is simple. Your right to report a fake review is built into the law. Your right to remove an honest one is not. For fake review removal UK law is on your side, as long as the review really is fake. Our fake review removal page explains the evidence platforms look for.

Defamation: serious harm and the London court

Under section 1 of the Defamation Act 2013, a statement is not defamatory unless it has caused or is likely to cause serious harm to the claimant’s reputation. For a body that trades for profit, harm is not serious unless it has caused or is likely to cause serious financial loss. That is a high bar for one review.

If a claim does go to the High Court, the Civil Procedure Rules send it to the Media and Communications List. That list also takes misuse of private information, data protection and harassment by publication claims. High Court claims are issued in the King’s Bench Division at the Royal Courts of Justice in London. After judgment for the claimant, section 13 lets the court order the website operator to remove the statement.

A court claim is the exception in review removal London work, not the first step. Removal Lab is not a law firm. Our defamation removal page explains when the legal route is worth paying for.

UK GDPR, the ICO and reviews that name people

In review removal London work, reviews sometimes name a receptionist, a junior chef or a patient. Platforms ban most of this. Google’s personal information rule covers details about a living, identifiable person. Checkatrade bars full names, addresses and phone numbers in trade replies.

The person named also has data protection rights. The ICO says the right to erasure applies on set grounds, for example where data is processed unlawfully. It does not apply where processing is needed for freedom of expression and information. An organisation must answer within one month, extendable by two more months for complex requests. Requests can be made verbally or in writing. The ICO asks people to complain to the organisation first and give it a month before coming to the ICO.

In most review removal London cases the faster route is the platform’s own personal information rule. When the issue is a search result about a person, our page on the right to be forgotten on Google covers the UK route.

Time zones and response times for review removal London clients

Removal Lab’s team works from Toronto and New York. London is ahead of both, so when it is early afternoon in London the working day is starting there. If a call helps, your afternoon is the easiest time to have it. Most cases need no call at all: send links and screenshots by WhatsApp or email and a specialist replies within one business day.

The gap moves by an hour for a few weeks each spring and autumn. UK clocks change on the last Sunday in March and the last Sunday in October. Canada changes on the second Sunday in March and the first Sunday in November. Here is what each platform says about timing, plus the deadlines that matter for review removal London cases.

A worked example: a Clapham dental practice

This is a made up example to show the steps. It is not a client case.

Here is how a review removal London case can play out. A dental practice in Clapham finds three reviews in one fortnight. The first is a Google review from a profile that, the same day, gave five stars to a rival practice in Balham. The second is a Google review that calls the practice fraudsters and gives no detail. The third is a Doctify review saying the wrong tooth was treated, with no way to check it without a clinical opinion.

ReviewRule it may breakWhat the practice sends
Google review from the rival’s supporterGoogle conflict of interest, including posting on a competitor’s listing to damage itScreenshots of the profile’s other reviews, saved before they change
Google review calling the practice fraudstersGoogle offensive content: unsubstantiated accusations of unethical or criminal conductThe exact words, quoted. Nothing else
Doctify review about the wrong toothDoctify: claims that cannot be checked without independent medical expertiseA report through Doctify. No patient records in the report

Removal Lab files the two Google reports through the Reviews Management Tool and keeps the one time appeal for any review Google turns down. The Doctify report goes to its own process. The practice replies to each review politely and in general terms, without confirming that anyone was a patient. If a platform agrees a rule was broken, the review comes down and the practice pays then. If not, it owes nothing. That is review removal London work done honestly.

Frequently asked questions

Can Removal Lab get a Google review removed for a London business?

Only Google can remove a review on Google. Removal Lab checks the review against Google policy for free and, when it breaks a rule, builds and files the report. You pay only if it is removed.

Is Trustpilot review removal London any different from the rest of the UK?

No. Trustpilot applies the same guidelines across the UK. A business flags a review through its business account or the Content Integrity team. Misuse of flagging can lead to penalties such as a Consumer Warning.

Is it illegal to remove negative reviews in the UK?

Hiding genuine reviews can be, because the DMCC Act bans publishing reviews in a misleading way and the CMA says suppressing genuine negative reviews may break the law. Reporting fake or rule breaking reviews is different: the CMA expects review sites to offer a way to do it.

Where are defamation claims heard in London?

High Court defamation claims go to the Media and Communications List and are issued in the King’s Bench Division at the Royal Courts of Justice. Speak to a solicitor before taking that route.

How fast does TripAdvisor deal with a reported review?

TripAdvisor says it researches complaints about reviews within 48 hours. Use the Report problem with review flag at the bottom of the review.

Can a review that names my staff be removed?

Often, yes. Google’s personal information rule covers details about a living, identifiable person. The person named also has rights under UK data protection law.

Does review removal London cost anything upfront?

Nothing on qualifying cases. The case review is free and you pay only when the content is removed.
