Plastic surgeon review removal with Removal Lab

Written by the Removal Lab team.

Did a 1 star review land the week after a revision consult, from a name your patient coordinator cannot find? Plastic surgeon review removal is possible when a review breaks the rules of the site it sits on. Removal Lab checks that for you for free before anything is filed.

Med spa review removal works the same way. So does review removal for injectors and cosmetic clinics. A specialist reads each review against that site’s rules and replies within one business day. On qualifying cases there is no upfront payment. You pay only when the review is removed. Removal Lab does not work for any review site and cannot delete anything itself. The platform decides.

Aesthetic practices face a problem most businesses never meet. You cannot answer cosmetic surgery negative reviews with the facts of the case, because those facts are patient health information. So the platform rules matter even more. This guide to plastic surgeon review removal covers the sites that matter, what each one removes, what you may say in public and the evidence that helps.

Plastic surgeon review removal: the platforms that matter

Five sites come up again and again for aesthetic practices. Each one has its own rulebook, so plastic surgeon review removal starts with knowing which rules apply.

PlatformWho can reviewWhat it says it removes or will not publishHow a practice reports
GoogleAnyone with a Google AccountContent that breaks its policies, including fake engagement, conflicts of interest, harassment and personal information, which its policy says includes medical informationReport icon on the review, or the Reviews Management Tool. RealSelfGenuine patients with no personal connection to the providerConflicts of interest, paid or incentivised reviews, hearsay, duplicates and rating manipulation. It does not remove reviews on requestA written dispute through its online dispute form
HealthgradesReviewers who pass its verification and content rulesFalse, misleading or inflammatory content, defamation, harassment, threats, personal information, impersonation and personal attacksFlag the comment so it is checked again against the standards
YelpYelp users. Yelp tells businesses not to ask for reviewsConflicts of interest such as competitors or former employees, reviews not about the reviewer’s own experience, private information about staff or patrons, threats and hate speechReport the review to Yelp

Plastic surgeon review removal on RealSelf

RealSelf is built around cosmetic treatments, so it plays a big part in plastic surgeon review removal. Its rules sit in its Code of Conduct.

The limits matter just as much. If you want to remove a RealSelf review, know that RealSelf says it only removes reviews that violate its Terms of Service. It does not remove reviews on request. A provider who disputes a review does so in writing through its online dispute form.

RealSelf also holds providers to a code of their own. Providers must not write reviews, pay for them or use third party services to collect and post them. They must stay professional, must not post disparaging comments about members and must not post anything that breaks HIPAA or other health privacy laws. RealSelf says serious or repeated breaches can lead to revoked access.

Which plastic surgery and med spa reviews can be removed

Across these sites, reviews that qualify for plastic surgeon review removal tend to fall into a handful of groups.

Reviews from people who were never patients

RealSelf only accepts reviews from genuine patients. Zocdoc only invites patients the practice has marked as attended. Its provider help centre asks providers to email its trust and safety team about a review from someone who never interacted with the practice or did not attend. Yelp lists reviews that are not about the reviewer’s own experience. On Google, start with its rules on fake and misleading content and reviews. This is the first thing to check in any plastic surgeon review removal case.

Competitor and fake patient reviews

Google’s contribution policy bans posting content on a competitor’s place or business to undermine its reputation. Yelp lists a reviewer who appears to be a competitor as a conflict of interest. In the US, 16 CFR 465.2 bans a business from writing or creating a review that misrepresents that the reviewer exists or used the service.

Clinics in the same area often chase the same patients. In plastic surgeon review removal, watch for a cluster of 1 star reviews from accounts that also praise one rival. Our page on fake review removal covers the evidence that helps.

Reviews that expose private details

Google’s policy counts medical information as personal information. Healthgrades bans phone numbers, email addresses, full names and other personal details. Yelp lists private information about employees or patrons. Zocdoc will not publish personal information. A review that names your nurse injector in full or describes another patient may qualify for plastic surgeon review removal, depending on the site.

Hearsay and second hand stories

A review that retells a friend’s experience is a common pattern in cosmetic surgery negative reviews. RealSelf bans hearsay and third party experiences. Yelp lists reviews about someone else’s experience.

Threats, harassment and personal attacks

Healthgrades rejects harassment, threats and personal attacks. RealSelf bans threats or intimidation and personal attacks that target someone’s character or appearance. Google’s policy has its own section on harassment. Each of these can support plastic surgeon review removal.

Reviews that argue with a diagnosis on Zocdoc

Zocdoc is unusual among the sites that matter for plastic surgeon review removal. It will not publish claims about the accuracy of a practitioner’s treatment or diagnosis. It also leaves out pricing details tied to insurance.

What review sites will not remove

A patient who is unhappy with their result, the price, the wait or your manner is allowed to say so. Google’s page on reporting reviews asks businesses not to report a review just because they disagree with it. It also says Google does not get involved in conflicts between businesses and customers. RealSelf does not remove reviews on request. Zocdoc says mere suspicion is usually not enough for removal. Plastic surgeon review removal is not a way to clear honest criticism.

A disappointing result is not a policy breach

Swelling that lasted longer than expected, an outcome the patient dislikes or a fee they found too high are fair topics for a review. Plastic surgeon review removal only works where a review breaks a rule. For genuine criticism, a calm reply and better follow up do more than any report.

Before and after photo disputes

Photo disputes tend to come in three kinds.

A reviewer posts images that are not real results

RealSelf requires photos and videos to show real before and after results and bans excessively edited or AI generated images. If a review carries images like that, cite those rules in your plastic surgeon review removal request. If a review shows a staff member or another patient who did not agree to it, report it under that site’s personal information or privacy rules and let the platform decide.

A patient says you used their photos

Here the risk sits with the practice. HHS lists full face photographs and any comparable images among the identifiers that must be removed before health information counts as de identified under the HIPAA Safe Harbor method. HHS also says a covered entity must obtain an authorisation to use or disclose protected health information for marketing, with limited exceptions. Check the signed consent before you do anything else. Never argue the point in a public reply.

A reviewer says your before and after images are edited

Look at your own advertising first. In California, Business and Professions Code section 651 treats altered images of a procedure’s results as misleading. It requires before and after views to be comparable in presentation, so that poses and lighting do not distort the result. It also requires a statement that the same results may not occur for all patients. If you practise outside California, ask your own medical board or a healthcare lawyer what applies. This page is not legal advice.

Patient privacy: what you can say when you reply

This is where well meaning clinics get hurt. No plastic surgeon review removal request can undo a reply that has already leaked patient details. HHS explains that the HIPAA Privacy Rule protects individually identifiable health information, which includes demographic data and common identifiers such as a name or address. Confirming that a reviewer was your patient, or mentioning their procedure, can reveal exactly that.

HHS has acted on this more than once. A New Jersey psychiatric practice paid $30,000 and agreed to a corrective action plan after replies to negative online reviews disclosed patients’ health information. The OCR Director put it plainly: “Simply put, this is not allowed.” A California dental practice paid $23,000 after its social media replies to patient reviews disclosed protected health information.

HHS says the Privacy Rule covers health care providers that send health information electronically for certain standard transactions. Whether a cash only med spa falls inside that is a question for your compliance adviser. The platforms do not wait for the answer. RealSelf tells providers not to post anything that breaks HIPAA or other health privacy laws. Google’s tips on reviews say never to share a reviewer’s private information. Zocdoc does not allow public responses at all.

Do not writeSafer instead
“Your rhinoplasty healed normally, as your notes show.”“We take every concern seriously. Please call our patient care manager so we can talk privately.”
“Our records show you missed two follow up appointments.”“We are sorry to read this. We cannot discuss anyone’s care in public, but we would welcome a private conversation.”
“You were a difficult patient from day one.”“We protect every patient’s privacy, so we will not discuss details here. Our door is open.”
“Here are your before and after photos to prove the result.”“We would be glad to go through your results with you in person.”

Evidence a clinic usually holds

Most aesthetic practices already hold what a platform needs for plastic surgeon review removal. The trick is to use facts about the review, not facts about anyone’s care.

SituationEvidence you probably holdWhere it helps
Reviewer was never a patientA search of your booking system by name, phone and date with no match. No consult, invoice or payment recordGoogle, RealSelf, Healthgrades and Yelp. On Zocdoc, the attended status you set
Competitor reviewThe reviewer’s profile praising one rival clinic. Timing that matches a local dispute. Wording repeated across accountsGoogle fake engagement rules. Yelp conflict of interest rules
Former employeeStaff records and leaving date. The reviewer’s own public profileGoogle, RealSelf and Yelp conflict of interest rules
Personal details of staff or patientsA screenshot of the review with the detail markedAll five sites in the table above ban personal information
A demand for money to remove reviewsScreenshots of the demand, the account and the datesGoogle’s merchant extortion report form, as its extortion guidance explains

Keep clinical notes out of every plastic surgeon review removal report. The platform is judging the review against its rules, not judging your care. Sending more patient detail than you need only creates a new privacy problem.

How Removal Lab helps plastic surgeons and med spas

Plastic surgeon review removal with Removal Lab starts with a free, confidential check. A specialist reads each review against the rules of the site it sits on. You get an honest answer on which reviews qualify and which do not. For the ones that qualify, we build the report around the right rule and the evidence you already hold, then handle the follow up and any appeal.

On qualifying cases there is no upfront payment. You pay only when the review is removed. Removal Lab does not work for Google, RealSelf, Healthgrades, Yelp or Zocdoc. The platform makes every decision. We never post fake reviews and never pay anyone to delete one. For the wider healthcare picture, see our page on review removal for dentists and doctors.

This is a made up example to show the steps. It is not a client case.

This is how a plastic surgeon review removal case might run for a med spa. Picture three 1 star Google reviews in four days. All three say a filler treatment went wrong. The booking system shows no appointment, consult or payment under any of the three names. Two of the accounts have left 5 star reviews for one rival clinic nearby.

The owner wants to reply with the facts but holds back. Removal Lab checks the three reviews against Google’s rules on fake engagement and conflicts of interest. The report uses booking searches and screenshots of the accounts, with no clinical detail. A fourth review comes from a real patient who is unhappy with swelling. It does not qualify, so the clinic answers it with a short, general reply and an offer to talk privately. Google then makes its own decision on each report.

How Removal Lab works

Frequently asked questions

Can a plastic surgeon get a negative review removed?

Plastic surgeon review removal is only possible when the review breaks the rules of the site it sits on, for example a fake review, a conflict of interest, personal information or harassment. Honest criticism of a result stays up. Removal Lab checks any review for free and replies within one business day.

Can I remove a RealSelf review?

RealSelf says it only removes reviews that violate its Terms of Service and does not remove reviews on request. A provider can dispute a review in writing through its online dispute form.

Can I reply to a bad review with the facts of the patient’s care?

No. HHS has settled with practices that disclosed patient information in replies to online reviews, including a $30,000 agreement with a psychiatric practice. Keep replies general and invite the person to talk privately.

What if a patient says my before and after photos were edited?

Check your own advertising first. In California, Business and Professions Code section 651 requires before and after views to be comparable in presentation and to carry a statement that the same results may not occur for all patients. RealSelf also bans excessively edited or AI generated images.

Can I respond to Zocdoc reviews?

Zocdoc says it does not currently allow responses. If a review breaks its policy, you can email its trust and safety team up to one year after the review was approved.

Can a competitor’s fake review be removed?

It can qualify. Google’s policy bans posting content on a competitor’s business to undermine its reputation and Yelp treats a competitor as a conflict of interest. In plastic surgeon review removal, evidence linking the account to a rival helps most.

How much does plastic surgeon review removal cost?

The first check is free. On qualifying cases Removal Lab charges no upfront payment and you pay only when the review is removed.
