Written by the Removal Lab team.

Review removal San Francisco businesses can rely on works through each platform’s own rules: Removal Lab checks the review for free and, when it breaks those rules, builds the report and files it with the evidence attached.

Honest reviews stay up, even sharp ones. Fake reviews, reviews from rivals or insiders and reviews that cross a platform’s lines can be reported. A specialist replies within one business day. There is no upfront payment on qualifying cases.

Removal Lab has no office in San Francisco. We serve the city and the wider Bay Area remotely from our offices in Toronto and New York. This page covers the sites that shape review removal San Francisco work: Yelp, which started here, Glassdoor and Indeed for tech employers, G2 for software companies and Google for everyone.

Review removal San Francisco in one minute

Yelp and Google carry restaurants, shops and services. Glassdoor and Indeed carry employer reviews. G2 carries software. In review removal San Francisco cases, each one decides on its own rules. None of them removes a review just because it is negative. Removal Lab reports only reviews that are fake or break those rules. You pay only if one comes down.

Why review removal San Francisco cases look different

San Francisco is Yelp’s home city. Yelp’s own press release on its Trust and Safety Report carries a San Francisco dateline and says the company was founded there. That does not earn review removal San Francisco cases any special treatment. Yelp says its recommendation software looks at every review on Yelp worldwide and applies the same standards to all businesses.

The second difference is the employer. Many Bay Area companies sell software or hire engineers. Their reputations live on Glassdoor, Indeed and G2 as much as on Google.

So review removal San Francisco work splits into three tracks: customer reviews on Yelp and Google, employer reviews on Glassdoor and Indeed and product reviews on G2. This is what each platform says in its own help pages.

Yelp review removal San Francisco: what Yelp says it will and will not do

Yelp review removal San Francisco owners ask about often starts with a dispute over facts. Yelp says plainly that it does not take sides in factual disputes and generally lets users stand behind what they write. What it does act on is a review that breaks its Content Guidelines. When you report one, Yelp asks you to include any information that helps it verify the problem. If a court has already ruled a review defamatory in a final order, Yelp tells you to contact its Support team.

Before you report anything, check where the review sits. Yelp’s recommendation software sorts reviews into recommended and not recommended. Not recommended reviews stay visible but do not count toward the star rating or review count. Yelp says advertising has no connection to how the software treats reviews and no Yelp employee can override it. A one star review already sitting in the not recommended section may not be worth your time.

What Yelp penalises businesses for

Yelp’s rules shape review removal San Francisco cases in a second way. Yelp tells businesses not to ask anyone for reviews, whether customers, friends or mailing list subscribers. It also says not to offer freebies, discounts or payment for reviews. You cannot offer incentives for users to remove reviews either. Its Consumer Alerts programme can put a warning on a business page for buying reviews, for a batch of reviews from one IP address or for threatening reviewers with legal action. Yelp says an alert generally comes off after 90 days if the behaviour stops.

This is not theory. In one Trust and Safety Report, Yelp said it placed 16 Questionable Legal Threat Alerts on business pages in a single year. A lawyer’s letter to a San Francisco reviewer can end up as a public warning on your own page.

When a story about you goes viral

When a business suddenly draws public attention, Yelp says its software flags the unusual activity and its staff investigate. Yelp may place an alert over the review section, temporarily switch off new reviews on the page and keep removing reviews that seem driven by media coverage rather than a real visit. If your café lands in the news, the review removal San Francisco case is about the wave, not one review. Report it and let that process run. Do not answer it with friendly reviews. Our Yelp review removal page covers the full reporting route.

Glassdoor review removal Bay Area: tech employers after a hard quarter

For tech employers, Glassdoor review removal Bay Area requests often follow a reorganisation or a round of layoffs. That is the hardest moment to judge a review fairly, so start with what Glassdoor says. Negative reviews are not removed automatically. An employer can select the flag icon under a review to ask for a second look by a second tier moderator. If the review breaks the Community Guidelines, it comes down and the author is told. If it does not, the employer hears back by email. The reviewer is not told that a review was flagged.

Glassdoor says it takes the anonymity of reviews seriously. It does not archive reviews just because they are old, though recent reviews carry more weight in the overall rating. It also tells employers not to offer staff incentives, such as gift cards or a promised party, to leave reviews.

In most Glassdoor review removal Bay Area cases, your reply does more than the flag. Glassdoor lets employers answer through a free employer account, with up to 5,000 characters per response. It asks employers to stay courteous, not to name the reviewer and not to threaten legal or punitive action. Replies that break those rules can be taken down after they post. Our Glassdoor review removal page goes deeper.

Indeed company reviews

Indeed matters for review removal San Francisco employers too. It only accepts company reviews from people who work or worked at that company. It asks reviewers to avoid naming people who are not public figures and not to share internal company details. Anyone can report a review: select the three dots, choose Report review, pick a reason and select Submit. Indeed says it will not edit reviews and will not tell you the outcome of a report. Our Indeed review removal page covers the rest.

Employee posts and federal labour law

There is one more reason to be careful with reviews from current or former staff. The National Labor Relations Board says social media posts can be protected concerted activity when employees share information about pay and working conditions. It also says one person griping alone is not concerted activity. Posts that are extremely offensive or knowingly false are not protected. Removal Lab is not a law firm. In review removal San Francisco cases that touch pay, layoffs or organising, talk to an employment lawyer before you act on it.

G2 reviews for San Francisco software companies

Software buyers often read G2 before they book a demo, so many review removal San Francisco requests from software companies start there. G2 lets a vendor report a review it believes is fake or inappropriate: sign in, select the three dots at the top right of the review, choose Report a Concern and fill out the form in as much detail as you can. G2 says it will not consider a review for removal because of its tone, where it sits on a page or whether it was posted anonymously. It also says it cannot clarify or verify the information a review contains.

G2’s guidelines bar reviews from the vendor’s own employees and from employees of direct competitors. Vendors may ask customers for reviews, but G2 removes reviews where it finds a vendor solicited only positive ones. G2 allows incentives for honest reviews, capped at 100 US dollars, as long as eligibility never depends on the opinion in the review. Our G2 and Capterra review removal page has the full detail.

Restaurants and cafés: Google next to Yelp

A restaurant in the Inner Richmond lives on Google as much as on Yelp, so most review removal San Francisco cases for restaurants involve both. Google wants every review to be about an experience at that specific place. Reviews based on current or former employment, family ties or competition break its conflict of interest rule. Posting on a rival’s listing to undermine it is banned outright. So are reviews that are paid for and reviews posted from several accounts by one person.

To report from your Business Profile, choose Read reviews, select the Report icon next to the review, pick a reason such as Spam and select Send report. The Reviews Management Tool then tracks the report. Each review gets one appeal and one appeal can cover up to 10 reviews. Google says evaluation typically takes several days.

Google review removal is part of nearly every review removal San Francisco case. Our Google review removal service page shows how we build those reports. For booking sites, see OpenTable review removal. Our page on review removal for restaurants and hotels covers the rest of hospitality.

Federal and California rules behind review removal San Francisco work

The FTC’s rule on consumer reviews and testimonials, 16 CFR Part 465, applies to review removal San Francisco cases as it does across the US. Under section 465.2, a business may not write, create or sell fake reviews, or buy them when it knew or should have known they were fake. Under 465.4, a business may not pay or reward people for reviews that must be positive or negative. Under 465.7(a), nobody may use a groundless legal threat, a physical threat, intimidation or certain false public accusations to stop a review or get it removed. The FTC says the rule lets it seek civil penalties against knowing violators.

Section 465.7(b) helps in another way. It lists reviews a site can hold back without hiding bad news, such as defamatory or harassing content, another person’s personal information, reviews reasonably believed to be fake and reviews wholly unrelated to the product. Those are close to the grounds Yelp, Google, Glassdoor and G2 already use in review removal San Francisco cases.

California adds its own ban on contract clauses that stop customers from reviewing you. Our review removal Los Angeles page covers that law, so we will not repeat it here. For fake review removal in California, the platform rules and the FTC rule do most of the work. When a review is false and seriously harmful, our defamation removal page explains when a lawyer is worth calling.

Pacific time and response times for review removal San Francisco clients

Removal Lab’s offices are at 100 King St W in Toronto and 122 E 42nd St in New York. Federal law sets standard time in San Francisco’s zone at eight hours behind UTC and in New York’s zone at five hours behind. So 9am in San Francisco is noon for our New York team. Both cities change their clocks on the same days, the second Sunday in March and the first Sunday in November, so the three hour gap holds all year.

Most review removal San Francisco cases need no call. Send the links and screenshots by WhatsApp or email when you start your day and a specialist replies within one business day. This is what each platform says about timing.

A worked example: a SoMa software company

This is a made up example to show the steps. It is not a client case.

Here is how a review removal San Francisco case can play out. A software company in SoMa cuts part of its sales team. Within two weeks it sees four new reviews on four different sites.

ReviewRule it may breakWhat the company does
A G2 review from a profile that lists a job at a direct competitorG2 bars reviews by employees of direct competitorsReport a Concern, with screenshots of the public profile saved before it changes
A Google review on the office listing from a former employee about the layoffsGoogle’s conflict of interest rule covers current or former employmentReport it and track it in the Reviews Management Tool
An Indeed review that names a team lead who is not a public figure and calls her a liarIndeed asks reviewers not to name people who are not public figuresReport review, choosing the matching reason
A Glassdoor review from a laid off rep criticising the commission planProbably none. It reads as a genuine experience and Glassdoor does not remove negative reviews automaticallyNo flag. A calm reply that explains the plan without naming anyone

Removal Lab files the G2, Google and Indeed reports and keeps Google’s one appeal in reserve. The Glassdoor review stays. The company answers it instead, because a good reply reaches the same candidates the review does. If a platform agrees a rule was broken and a review comes down, the company pays for that one. If not, it owes nothing. That is review removal San Francisco work done by the rules.

Frequently asked questions

Can Removal Lab get a Yelp review removed for a San Francisco business?

Only Yelp can remove a Yelp review. Removal Lab checks it against Yelp’s rules for free and, when it breaks them, prepares the report with the evidence. You pay only if it comes down.

Does Yelp treat San Francisco businesses differently because it is based there?

No. Yelp says its recommendation software applies the same standards to every review worldwide. It also says advertising has no connection to how reviews are treated.

Can a Bay Area employer remove a negative Glassdoor review?

Not because it is negative. An employer can flag a review that breaks the Community Guidelines and a second tier moderator decides. Genuine criticism stays, so a calm reply is usually the better move.

Can a competitor’s employee review my product on G2?

No. G2’s guidelines bar reviews from employees of direct competitors and from the vendor’s own staff. Report it from the three dots menu with Report a Concern.

What happens if I threaten a Yelp reviewer with legal action?

Yelp can place a Consumer Alert on your page for threatening reviewers. The FTC rule at 16 CFR 465.7 also bans groundless legal threats used to get a review removed.

Does review removal San Francisco work cost anything upfront?

Nothing on qualifying cases. The case review is free and you pay only when the content is removed.

Does Removal Lab have an office in San Francisco?

No. Removal Lab’s offices are in Toronto and New York. We handle review removal San Francisco cases remotely and reply within one business day.
