Real complaints stay up, even the ones that sting. Fake reviews, reviews from rivals, reviews meant for another business and reviews that abuse or name your staff can be reported. A specialist replies within one business day. There is no upfront payment on qualifying cases.
Removal Lab has no Brisbane office. Our offices are in Toronto at 100 King St W and New York at 122 E 42nd St. We serve Brisbane remotely by email, WhatsApp and phone. The national picture is on our review removal Australia page. This page covers what is different in review removal Brisbane work: why reviews carry extra weight for Queensland tradies, the sites tradies get judged on, the new Queensland defamation rules for online platforms and how we work with a state that keeps its clocks still.
Review removal Brisbane in one minute
The Queensland Government tells people to check reviews and search the business name before they hire a tradie, so a false review costs real work. Google is the first site we check in a review removal Brisbane case. Queensland has now adopted the national defamation changes for online platforms, including a defence for platforms that act within 7 days of a written complaint. Genuine complaints stay up.
Why reviews weigh more for Brisbane tradies
Queensland’s Office of Fair Trading has warned people about shady tradies operating on social media and online marketplaces. The tradies it prosecuted were all found operating through online marketplaces, service seeking apps or social media. Its advice to the public is direct: check reviews and do a general internet search of the business name.
For review removal Brisbane clients, that advice cuts both ways. It means one fake review sits right where a careful Brisbane homeowner looks before calling you. Review removal Brisbane cases for trades are often about speed for that reason. The same statement records a QBCC point that helps your evidence: QBCC licensees are required to use contracts and take out insurance on work worth more than $3,300. If a reviewer describes a large job that has no contract in your files, that gap is worth showing the platform. Our page on review removal for contractors covers trade cases in more depth.
Google review removal Brisbane: what Google acts on
Google decides on its own published policy. Every Google review removal Brisbane case starts by naming the rule that fits. Here is how Google’s rules line up with common review removal Brisbane situations.
| Google rule | What it says | A Brisbane situation it fits | Evidence to keep |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fake engagement | Posting content on a competitor’s place to undermine its reputation | A profile that slates you and praises a rival renovator in the next suburb the same week | Screenshots of the profile’s other reviews, saved before they change |
| Conflict of interest | Content based on a conflict of interest, which may include current or former employment | An apprentice who left on bad terms reviews the business | A short note on the connection. No personnel files |
| Offensive content | Unsubstantiated allegations of unethical behaviour or criminal wrongdoing | Scammer or thief, with no job details at all | A search of your quotes and invoices for that name and suburb |
| Personal information | Do not post personal information without consent | A review that gives a staff member’s full name and mobile number | The exact words, quoted |
| Off topic | Only post content based on your experience at a specific location | A review clearly meant for another business with a similar name | Details that show the job was not yours |
To report, open your Business Profile, select Read reviews, select the Report icon next to the review, choose a reason and select Send report. Google says review evaluation typically takes several days. The Reviews Management Tool shows the status. A review Google keeps up can go to a one time appeal. You can select up to 10 reviews in one appeal.
Google also says it does not get involved in conflict between businesses and customers. A review saying your tiler was late is a dispute, not a breach. Our Google review removal service page shows how we build reports. The guide on how long Google takes to remove a review covers the wait.
hipages, TrueLocal and ProductReview: the other sites Brisbane tradies watch
Google is not the only place a Brisbane customer reads about you. In review removal Brisbane cases we also look at three other sites. Here is what we could verify about each. We also say plainly what we could not.
hipages
The ACCC describes hipages as an ASX listed Australian online sales lead generation platform that connects consumers with tradespeople in home improvement. Tradies and small businesses pay a monthly subscription for leads. The ACCC put the number of subscribers at more than 34,000.
We could not open hipages’ own review rules from its site for this page, so we do not summarise them here. If a hipages review is the problem, send it for a free review removal Brisbane check. We read the current rules before anything is filed.
TrueLocal
The terms of use linked from TrueLocal sit on the Thryv Australia site. They say separate True Local Review Guidelines apply to rating and reviewing a business. The general terms ban material that is false or misleading, abusive, harassing, defamatory or invasive of another person’s privacy. They also say the operator may remove content but is not obliged to review it. The terms do not describe a reporting process, so a review removal Brisbane case on TrueLocal usually starts with a written request to TrueLocal.
ProductReview.com.au
ProductReview.com.au says it does not endorse or make judgements on the factual validity of reviews. Its main aim is to check that a review is a genuinely held opinion. It says simply disagreeing with a review does not mean it must come down. You can give your side by responding. So on ProductReview, review removal Brisbane cases need a rule breach, not a different version of events.
Queensland defamation law now covers online platforms
Queensland adopted the second round of national defamation changes through the Defamation and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2025. Queensland’s legislative history shows the changes have commenced. The current Queensland Act now has rules for digital intermediaries, which it defines as a person other than an author, originator or poster of the matter.
These are the sections that matter in review removal Brisbane cases that reach a lawyer.
| Section | What the Queensland Act says | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| 31A | A defence for a digital intermediary that had an accessible complaints mechanism and took reasonable access prevention steps within 7 days after a written complaint. Only malice defeats it | A platform has a clear reason to act within a week of a proper complaint |
| 31A(3) | A written complaint must identify the plaintiff, the matter and where it is. It must also say the plaintiff considers it defamatory | A vague message to a platform may not count. Name the review, the link and why |
| 10D | Search engine providers are exempt where their role was an automated process. Not for results promoted or prioritised because of a payment or benefit from a third party | Complaints usually belong with the site hosting the review |
| 15 | For digital matter, an offer to make amends can be an offer to take access prevention steps | Taking content down can now be part of settling a dispute |
| 23A | Preliminary discovery to identify a poster, with privacy, safety and other public interest considered | Unmasking an anonymous reviewer is for a court. Removal Lab never tries to identify reviewers |
| 39A | A court can order a digital intermediary that is not a party to take access prevention steps | A court win can reach the platform even if it was not sued |
| 27 | Absolute privilege now covers publication to a police official acting in an official capacity | Reporting threats or extortion to police is protected |
The older rules still apply on top. Under section 10A, serious harm to reputation is an element of the claim. The judicial officer rather than a jury decides it, early if a party asks. Sections 12A and 12B require a written concerns notice that gives the location of the matter, such as a webpage address, before any claim can start. Under section 14 the publisher then has 28 days to make an offer to make amends. Most companies cannot sue at all. Our Australia page explains the small company exception.
The same amending Act also updated section 365 of the Queensland Criminal Code, the offence of criminal defamation. Removal Lab is not a law firm. In review removal Brisbane work the legal route comes after the platform route. Our defamation removal page explains when a lawyer is worth calling.
Fake review removal Brisbane: rivals, the ACCC and the line you must not cross
The ACCC guide for businesses and review platforms names a business competing with the reviewed business as a source of misleading reviews. It says writing negative reviews about a competitor without having experienced the product or service is misleading. It tells affected businesses to notify the platform immediately, identify the reviews and give reasons and any evidence.
The guide also limits what a platform should do for you. It says platforms should respond to business concerns, but should not remove negative reviews simply because the business complains. That is why fake review removal Brisbane work is built on evidence, not on how unfair a review feels.
The ACCC holds businesses to the same standard. Its small business toolkit says businesses should not selectively edit or remove genuine reviews. It describes online florist Bloomex publishing misleading star ratings on its website that suggested they came from genuine customers. The Federal Court ordered Bloomex to pay $1 million in penalties. Our fake review removal page covers how platforms test a fake review claim.
Abuse aimed at your staff: eSafety and the police
Some review removal Brisbane cases go past criticism and target a person. The first step is the platform report. eSafety’s adult cyber abuse team also requires that you report the material to the platform before you complain to it. The complaint must come from the adult who was targeted, or someone they authorise. It can make an informal request when content appears to breach a platform’s terms, or give a formal direction when content breaches the Online Safety Act.
eSafety does not search for abuse itself, cannot act once content is removed and does not identify the person behind an anonymous or fake account. For harassment or serious threats, the ACCC guide says businesses may also consider contacting police. Our doxxing removal page covers cases where personal details are spread online.
Time zones for review removal Brisbane clients
Queensland does not observe daylight saving. New South Wales and Victoria put their clocks forward one hour on the first Sunday in October and back on the first Sunday in April. So for that half of the year Brisbane runs an hour behind Sydney and Melbourne. For the rest of the year it matches them.
We do not quote an exact hour gap to Toronto or New York, because it moves when clocks change. Most review removal Brisbane cases need no call: send the links and screenshots in one message and a specialist replies within one business day.
| Route | What the source says about timing | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Review evaluation typically takes several days. One time appeal, up to 10 reviews at once | Report the reviews that qualify together | |
| Queensland Act section 31A | Reasonable access prevention steps within 7 days after a written complaint | The window a platform has to keep its defence |
| Queensland Act section 14 | 28 days after a concerns notice for an offer to make amends | A legal claim cannot start the day you are angry |
| ProductReview.com.au | Its help article gives no time frames | Send your strongest evidence first |
| Removal Lab | Reply within one business day | Send every link in one message |
A worked example: a Woolloongabba bathroom renovator
This is a made up example to show the steps. It is not a client case.
Here is how a review removal Brisbane case can play out. A bathroom renovation business in Woolloongabba finds four reviews it is worried about. The first is a Google review calling the owner a scam artist who took a deposit and vanished. No quote, invoice or call matches the name. The same profile gave five stars to a rival renovator that week. The second is a Google review about a pool build, which the business has never done. The third is a TrueLocal review that names the apprentice in full and insults him. The fourth is a Google review saying the grout cracked and the callback took two weeks.
| Review | Rule it may break | What the business sends | Likely result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scam artist review | Google fake engagement (competitor) and unsubstantiated allegations of wrongdoing | Screenshots of the profile, a note that no quote or contract matches | A real case to report |
| Pool build review | Google off topic: not based on an experience at this business | A short note on what the business does and does not do | A real case to report |
| TrueLocal review naming the apprentice | TrueLocal terms on abusive, harassing and privacy invading material | A written request to TrueLocal quoting the words | Up to TrueLocal |
| Cracked grout review | None. It is a genuine complaint | A calm reply that explains the fix | Stays up |
Removal Lab files the two Google reports together and keeps the one time appeal in reserve. The TrueLocal request goes in writing. The owner answers the grout review in public without arguing, because that review is honest. If a platform removes a review, the business pays then. If not, it owes nothing. That is review removal Brisbane work done properly.
Which Brisbane reviews stay up
- Honest complaints about the work. Google does not get involved in disputes between businesses and customers.
- Reviews you simply disagree with. ProductReview says disagreeing with a review does not mean it must come down.
- Negative reviews a platform is asked to hide because you complained. The ACCC guide says that is not a reason to remove them.
- Genuine reviews on your own website. The ACCC says businesses should not selectively edit or remove them.
People who search remove negative reviews Brisbane are often offered a clean profile. Under Australian consumer law that is the wrong goal. Honest review removal Brisbane advice includes telling you when a reply will do more good than a report. Our page on what we cannot remove lists the cases we turn down.

Yes. What should a written complaint to a platform include in Queensland?

eSafety acts on complaints from the adult targeted, or someone they authorise, after the content has been reported to the platform. It can request or direct removal of seriously harmful content but does not identify anonymous accounts.
Does review removal Brisbane cost anything upfront?
Nothing on qualifying cases. The case review is free and you pay only when the content is removed.
