Your home address and phone number have just been posted online, next to a message telling people to "pay you a visit"? Doxxing removal starts with your safety and then fast reports to each platform and to Google, which Removal Lab can prepare with you after a free check.
Platforms and Google decide what comes down. We help you report each post under the right rule, in the right order, with the evidence each one asks for. The check is confidential. On qualifying cases there is no upfront payment. We never try to identify the person behind the posts. That is a job for the police.
If you are in danger right now
If someone has threatened you or turned up at your home, call the police or your local emergency number first. Google’s help pages say to call the appropriate authorities if you are worried about your physical safety. YouTube says to contact local law enforcement about specific threats. Removal work can wait an hour. Your safety cannot.
How doxxing removal works
Doxxing removal runs on two tracks at once. The first is the source: the post, video or page that shows your details. Only the platform or site owner can take that down. The second is search: Google can stop the page appearing in its results, but Google says it can only remove things from Google Search. You usually need both.
Google defines doxxing in one line: "Doxxing is when people share your private information to harm you." It says it can remove doxxing content when a URL contains your personal information together with explicit or implicit threats, or calls for others to harm or harass you. It can also remove a page with a significant amount of your personal information gathered together for no legitimate purpose. Most platforms have similar rules of their own, set out below.
What Google treats as doxxing and personal information
Google’s policy on personal information lists the kinds of details it may remove from search results. This is the starting point for doxxing removal in Google.
| Type of information | Example | Google route |
|---|---|---|
| Contact details | Home address, phone number or email | Results about you, or the removal request form |
| Government ID numbers | Social security, tax ID or resident ID numbers | Removal request form |
| Financial details | Bank account or credit card numbers | Removal request form |
| Images of documents | A photo of your signature or ID document | Removal request form |
| Private records | Medical records | Removal request form |
| Login details | Confidential usernames and passwords | Removal request form |
| Doxxing | Your details posted with threats, or a large collection of your details with no legitimate purpose | Removal request form |
Google says it may not remove content that is important or newsworthy, like the news. It also says only the URLs you submit are reviewed, so list every page.
How to remove doxxing from Google yourself
For doxxing removal in Google, the Results about you tool is the quickest route for contact details. These are Google’s steps.
- Sign in to your Google Account and search for your name.
- Next to the result, select More, then Remove result.
- Choose It shows my personal info and I don’t want it there, then Contact Info.
- Follow the prompts and finish with I’m done.
- Track the request under Removal requests in Results about you. Statuses include In progress, Approved, Denied and Undone.
Google says you can also set up Results about you to watch for new results with your phone number, home address or email and to notify you when they appear. That matters for doxxing removal, because the same details can get reposted.
For ID numbers, bank details, documents or threats, use Google’s removal request form instead. Google asks for the URLs of the pages with your information. It says screenshots help it find the content and that you can crop them so only your face shows. If Google removes a page, you get an email. Google describes two outcomes: the page is removed from Search completely, or it is removed only for searches that include your name. Our guide on how to remove personal information from Google covers the form in more detail.
How to report doxxing on X, Reddit, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok
Doxxing removal on social media means one report per platform, each under its own rule. This is what we could verify from each platform’s own published material for this page.
| Platform | What the rules say | How to report |
|---|---|---|
| X | Bars sharing someone’s home address, ID documents, private phone numbers or emails, financial details or medical records without permission. Also bars threatening to expose them | On a post or profile, select the more icon, then Report, choose who the report is for and follow the prompts. X says anyone can report clearly abusive sharing of private information |
| Personally identifiable information is one of the sitewide areas the Reddit Rules cover. Rule 1 bars harassment | Report the post or comment. Community moderators act first in many cases and Reddit admins enforce the sitewide rules | |
| TikTok | Its Harassment and Bullying rules prohibit doxing or encouraging others to do so | Use the in app report tools on the video, comment or account. Track it under Settings and Privacy, Support, Safety Center, Report Records |
| Meta’s privacy rules apply. We could not open Meta’s policy pages for this page | Instagram’s help centre confirms you can report a post or a profile | |
| Meta’s privacy rules apply. We could not open Meta’s policy pages for this page | Australia’s eSafety Commissioner says abuse on Facebook can be reported to the platform, to eSafety or to the police |
X has two details worth knowing. For private information shared in a clearly abusive way, X says anyone can report it. For other private information and for photos or videos of private people, X may need a report from the person affected or an authorised representative such as a parent, guardian or lawyer. X also says accounts whose sole purpose is posting other people’s private information are suspended.
TikTok says it does not tell the person you report who you are and may update you on the report in your inbox. Reddit says the poster is told why content was removed and how to appeal. For more on each platform, see X content removal, Reddit content removal, TikTok content removal, Instagram content removal and Facebook content removal.
Safety steps while doxxing removal is under way
Doxxing removal takes time. These steps protect you in the meantime.
- Save evidence before you block. eSafety warns against deleting messages straight away and says evidence should show where and when content was sent, posted or shared. Blocking can hide it.
- Keep a list of every URL. Google’s own advice for intimate images is to keep track of where you find the content. The same habit helps here.
- Do not reply to the poster. It rarely helps and it can spread the post further.
- Lock down your accounts. Change passwords if any login details were exposed and turn on two step sign in where you can.
- Tell your bank if card or account numbers were posted.
- Tell the people around you. Family, housemates or your workplace may need to know not to share your details or open the door to strangers.
- Set up alerts. Results about you can notify you when new results with your contact details appear.
When to involve the police
In plain terms: if the posts include threats, if people start contacting you or turning up, or if you feel unsafe, report it to the police. Platforms say the same. YouTube tells people facing specific threats to contact local law enforcement. Nextdoor’s guidelines point people concerned about illegal activity to local law enforcement. In Australia, the eSafety Commissioner lists the police as one of the places to report serious online abuse.
Doxxing removal and a police report can run side by side. Take your evidence with you: screenshots with dates, the URLs and any messages. Laws on doxxing, stalking and harassment differ by country and state, so ask the police or a lawyer what applies where you live. Our doxxing removal work never includes trying to identify anyone. If the person needs to be identified, that is for the police and the courts.
What doxxing removal cannot do
Doxxing removal cannot pull information back from every corner of the web. Google says that even if it removes something from Search, it might still be online through links, social media or other search engines. Some details are not treated as private. X, for example, says it does not consider names, birthdates or ages, schools or workplaces and business locations to be private under its policy, although it may still act on home addresses even when they are public elsewhere.
Google also says it may keep content that is newsworthy. And no platform will remove a fair news report just because it names you. Our page on how to remove images from Google covers photos of your home or ID, which need their own requests.
How long doxxing removal takes
Speed matters in doxxing removal, so here is only what the platforms say. Google says approved Results about you removals may take a few hours to disappear from results. TikTok says it may update you on a report in your inbox. X and Reddit do not publish a timeline for reports in the material we read. We tell you within one business day which reports to file and we never invent a date for a decision.
What to do if a platform says no
If a doxxing removal request is refused, keep going. These steps still help.
- Check who filed. On X, some private information and private media cases need a report from the person affected or their representative. Refile yourself if a friend reported first.
- Use Google either way. A platform refusal does not stop a Google request. Google’s doxxing rule may still apply to the page.
- Ask for name only removal. Google may remove a page only for searches that include your name.
- Look at the rest of your footprint. Videos and professional profiles have their own routes. See YouTube video removal and LinkedIn content removal.
- Get legal advice. If threats continue, a lawyer can advise on court orders where you live.
If the doxxing started in a neighbourhood dispute, see Nextdoor post removal. If it started on a forum, our guide on how to remove a Reddit post walks through the steps.

Frequently asked questions
What does Google count as doxxing?
Google says doxxing is when people share your private information to harm you. It may remove pages that show your personal information with threats or calls for harassment, or a large collection of your details with no legitimate purpose.
Can Google remove my home address from search results?
Often, yes. For doxxing removal of contact details, Google’s Results about you tool lets you request removal of results that show your phone number, home address or email. Google says approved removals may take a few hours to disappear.
Does doxxing removal from Google delete it from the website?
No. Google says it can only remove results from Google Search, so you also need to report the post to the platform or site that hosts it.
Can someone else report doxxing on X for me?
X says anyone can report private information that is shared in a clearly abusive way. In other cases X may need a report from the person affected or an authorised representative.
Will TikTok tell the person I reported them?
No. TikTok says it will not disclose a reporter’s identity to the person whose content or account is reported.
Should I go to the police about doxxing?
If you are threatened or feel unsafe, yes. YouTube, Nextdoor and Google all point people facing threats or danger to local law enforcement or the appropriate authorities.
