Review removal Manchester with Removal Lab

Written by the Removal Lab team.

Did a one star review land on your Checkatrade profile from a name that is not in your job book? Review removal Manchester businesses can rely on starts with the platform’s own rules: Removal Lab checks the review for free and, when it breaks those rules, files the report with the evidence attached.

Removal Lab serves Manchester remotely. Our team works from Toronto and New York, which are behind UK time, so your afternoon lines up with our morning. Most review removal Manchester cases need no call: send the links by WhatsApp or email and a specialist replies within one business day. There is no upfront payment on qualifying cases.

UK law, including the fake review ban and the serious harm test for defamation, is set out on our review removal UK page and our London page. This page covers review removal Manchester owners actually face: the platforms trades, restaurants and shops across Greater Manchester rely on, the local routes for food and deposit complaints and where a court claim from Manchester ends up.

Review removal Manchester in one minute

Google, Trustpilot, Checkatrade, Yell and Tripadvisor each decide on their own rules. Genuine reviews stay up, even the harsh ones. Fake reviews, reviews from rivals, reviews that name private people and reviews meant for a different business can be reported. Fake review removal UK law supports, as long as the review really is fake.

Google review removal Manchester: the platforms that matter

A cocktail bar in the Northern Quarter lives on Google and Tripadvisor. A plumber in Stockport or Salford lives on Checkatrade and Yell. An online brand based at MediaCityUK lives on Trustpilot. Each site has its own rule book, so every review removal Manchester case starts by matching the review to the right rule on the right site. This is what each platform says in its own help pages.

Google is part of nearly every review removal Manchester case. Our Google review removal service page shows how we build those reports.

Yell: the directory many Manchester trades still use

Yell gets less attention than Google, but plenty of Manchester trades still win work from it, so it comes up in review removal Manchester cases. To report a review, use the Report Review link next to it on your listing. Yell says it checks the review against its Reviews Policy, may contact the reviewer and may hide the review while it investigates. It also says reporting does not automatically lead to removal. Disagreeing with a rating is not grounds on its own.

Yell’s policy for businesses is strict in both directions. Reviewers need direct, first hand experience in the last 12 months. It removes fake reviews that breach its policies. Businesses must not offer incentives for reviews. They must not discourage negative reviews or ask only happy customers for reviews. They must not try to have negative reviews removed so only positive ones remain. Yell calls that last one astroturfing. Replies go through the Received reviews page and are published in real time, so write them once and write them calmly. You can dispute a decision made in the last six months, but only once.

Checkatrade: the three month window

For trades, review removal Manchester work runs against a clock. Checkatrade asks trades to report a review in its app within three months of publication if it breaks its consumer guidelines. It does not allow anonymous reviews, so a review from someone you do not recognise is worth flagging for investigation. It will not remove a review just because you think it is unfair, or because the problem has since been fixed. For defamation it points to its Notice and Takedown Procedure. Keep paperwork, photos and screenshots of finished jobs, because that is the evidence it asks for. Our review removal for contractors page covers trades in more depth.

Trustpilot review removal Manchester: online shops and services

Trustpilot review removal Manchester brands ask about follows the same guidelines as the rest of the UK. A business can flag a review through its business account or the Content Integrity team. Flagged reviews stay visible while Trustpilot investigates, unless they are flagged as harmful or illegal. One rule surprises people: Trustpilot says businesses should flag five star and one star reviews on the same grounds. It treats flagging too quickly or for the wrong reasons as misuse. The penalties it lists include a Consumer Warning on your profile and a hidden TrustScore. The step by step route is on our Trustpilot review removal page.

Restaurants and food poisoning claims

Ancoats, Spinningfields and the Northern Quarter are full of restaurants. The review that frightens owners most says “food poisoning”. Handle it with care. The Food Standards Agency says symptoms usually begin within one to two days after eating contaminated food, but can start anywhere between a few hours and several weeks later. So a review that blames last night’s dinner may be honest even if your kitchen did nothing wrong. Arguing the medicine in a public reply rarely helps.

Real food safety complaints have their own route. GOV.UK says people can report a food problem in a restaurant to the local authority where the business is located. It adds that the food safety team will consider the complaint and decide what to do. Food hygiene ratings come from local authorities too. Ratings from 0 to 4 are published 3 to 5 weeks after the inspection, which leaves time for an appeal.

When can a food review go? When it does not reflect a genuine experience: a date you were closed, a dish you have never served or a booking that never existed. On Google, an unsubstantiated claim that you committed a crime also breaks the offensive content rule. On Tripadvisor, use the Report problem with review flag. In review removal Manchester cases for restaurants, the strongest evidence is a booking record or a closure notice. Our pages on Tripadvisor review removal and review removal for restaurants and hotels cover hospitality in more depth.

Letting agents near the universities

Letting agents around Fallowfield and Withington see a burst of reviews each summer, when tenancies end and deposits come back. Most of these are genuine experiences, so they stay up. A review about a deposit is usually a dispute. GOV.UK points tenants to a better place for it. If a deposit sits in an approved protection scheme, the scheme offers a free dispute resolution service when the tenant and landlord disagree, as long as both agree to use it. Its decision is then final.

A short, polite reply that points to that service often does more good than a report. Reviews that share a tenant’s address or phone number, or come from someone who never rented through you, are different. Those can break Google’s rules. That is where review removal Manchester work for agents usually focuses.

When a rival seems to be behind the reviews

A sudden wave of one star reviews from new profiles, all within a week of a falling out with a competitor, is a platform problem first. Report each review under the platform’s fake engagement or conflict of interest rule and keep a dated record of the pattern. In review removal Manchester cases like this, the pattern is the evidence. Our fake review removal page explains the evidence platforms look for.

If you think a business is buying or writing fake reviews, there is a public route too. In England, Citizens Advice says its consumer service passes reports to Trading Standards. Trading Standards decides whether to investigate, contacts you only if it needs more information and does not fix individual problems. It may still use your evidence later, especially if others complain about the same business.

Taking it to court from Manchester

A court claim is the exception in review removal Manchester work, not the first step. If it does come to that, one procedural rule surprises Manchester owners. Under rule 53.1 of the Civil Procedure Rules, a High Court claim that is or includes a claim for defamation must be issued in the Media and Communications List. So must claims for misuse of private information, data protection and harassment by publication.

Rule 53.4 then says such a claim must be issued in the King’s Bench Division at the Royal Courts of Justice. A claim issued in a District Registry must be transferred to the County Court or to the Royal Courts of Justice. In plain English, a High Court defamation claim started in Manchester does not stay in the High Court in Manchester. The serious harm test that decides whether a review is defamatory at all is explained on our UK page. Removal Lab is not a law firm. Our defamation removal page explains when the legal route is worth paying for.

A worked example: a Didsbury heating engineer

This is a made up example to show the steps. It is not a client case.

Here is how a review removal Manchester case can play out. A small heating firm in Didsbury finds three new reviews in one month. The first is a Checkatrade review about a boiler service from a name that is nowhere in the job book. The second is a Yell review about a boiler fitted, the reviewer says, four years ago. The third is a Google review about a botched bathroom refit. The firm does not fit bathrooms, but a company with a similar name in Stockport does.

ReviewRule it may breakWhat the firm sends
Checkatrade review from an unknown nameCheckatrade: no anonymous reviews, fake reviews are removedA report in the app inside three months, with a note that no job exists under that name
Yell review about a job four years agoYell: reviewers need direct, first hand experience in the last 12 monthsA report through the Report Review link, quoting the reviewer’s own words about when the job was done
Google review about a bathroom refitGoogle: content must reflect a genuine experience at this businessA report noting the firm does not fit bathrooms. A polite reply suggesting the reviewer may mean another firm

Removal Lab files the Google report and keeps Google’s one time appeal for any review Google turns down. The Checkatrade and Yell reports go to their own processes. The firm replies to each review once, without naming anyone. If a platform agrees a rule was broken, the review comes down and the firm pays then. If not, it owes nothing. That is review removal Manchester work done by the rules.
