How to delete a Facebook review with Removal Lab

Written by the Removal Lab team.

Has a stranger left a furious recommendation on your Facebook Page about a business you do not even run? If you are searching for how to delete a Facebook review, the answer is that a Page cannot delete someone else’s review itself, but it can report it to Meta or turn reviews off altogether. Removal Lab wrote this guide from Meta’s own help pages, checked in October 2026, so you can see both routes with the exact menu names and decide which one fits.

Facebook calls reviews Recommendations. They sit on the Reviews tab of your Page and feed your Page’s rating. Understanding how that rating works makes it easier to decide how to delete a Facebook review, or whether you even need to.

The quick version

  1. Open your Page, click Reviews under Details below the cover photo, then See all next to Recent reviews.
  2. On the review, click Options in the top right corner and select Report post.
  3. Follow the on screen instructions and choose the reason that matches the Community Standards breach.
  4. If you would rather have no reviews at all, go to Settings and privacy, Settings, Page and tagging and switch off Allow others to view and leave reviews on your Page?
  5. Keep a screenshot of the review and the date you reported it.

How Facebook reviews work on a Page

Meta says that turning Recommendations and reviews on lets anyone logged in to Facebook publish a Recommendation on your Page, see your Page’s rating and see recommendations shared with Public. Meta adds that recommendations help customers learn about your business and may make your Page easier to find in Facebook search.

A few details from Meta’s help page on ratings matter when you think about how to delete a Facebook review.

What Meta saysWhy it matters
Only Pages that turn on recommendations may show a ratingTurning recommendations off removes the rating too
A Page may not have a rating until it has at least five reviewsOne bad review on a new Page may not show as a score yet
Only recommendations shared publicly count towards the ratingA review shared with Friends only does not change your score
Review counts can differ by viewer because some reviews have custom audiencesYou may see a different count from your customers
Meta does not verify that reviewers bought the product or used the serviceFake or mistaken reviews can appear. Reporting is the route
Reviews that break Meta’s spam policies are removed and the rating may changeSpam is one of the clearest grounds to report

Route one: how to delete a Facebook review by reporting it

Meta’s own answer to how to delete a Facebook review that breaks the rules is a report. Meta says you can report recommendations that do not follow its Community Standards. It will review the report and may remove recommendations that break those standards. These are the steps on Meta’s computer help page.

  1. Go to your Page and click Reviews under Details below the Page cover photo.
  2. Click See all next to Recent reviews.
  3. Click Options in the top right corner of the post you want to report.
  4. Select Report post.
  5. Follow the on screen instructions.

Two limits apply when reporting is your plan for how to delete a Facebook review. Meta says recommendations that only include a star rating cannot be reported, so a bare one star with no text has no report option. And a report asks Meta to apply its Community Standards. It is not a way to remove a review for being negative.

Meta also has separate help pages for its Android, iPhone, iPad, Facebook Lite and mobile browser apps. If a label looks different, check the version that matches your device.

Route two: turn Recommendations off for your Page

Meta still lets a business Page switch reviews off. This is the bluntest answer to how to delete a Facebook review, because it hides every review at once. Meta says turning Recommendations off will disable Recommendations and remove the rating and reviews from your Page.

  1. Log in to Facebook and click your profile photo in the top right.
  2. Click See all profiles, then select the Page you want to switch into.
  3. Click your Page’s profile photo in the top right.
  4. Click Settings and privacy, then Settings.
  5. Click Page and tagging.
  6. Toggle Allow others to view and leave reviews on your Page? on or off.

Before you settle on this answer to how to delete a Facebook review, note one detail. Meta says that if your Page had reviews in the past, Recommendations were turned on automatically. So if you never chose to have reviews, they may still be switched on.

What if it does not work

  1. Check whether it is already gone. Meta says a review you cannot find may have been removed for breaking the Community Standards, or the reviewer may have changed its audience.
  2. Check the rule. Before anything else in how to delete a Facebook review, match it to the Community Standards. Meta’s help pages name spam reviews as something it removes. A review that is simply harsh is not named on the pages we read.
  3. Reply publicly. A short, polite reply shows other customers how you handle problems. It also stays when the review stays.
  4. Weigh turning reviews off. It removes the rating and every review, including good ones. Weigh that trade off carefully.
  5. Look beyond Facebook. If the same person is posting on several platforms, see our guides on how to remove a Google review and how to remove a Yelp review.

Mistakes to avoid

A worked example

This is a made up example to show the steps. It is not a client case.

Grace runs a mobile dog grooming business. A recommendation appeared on her Page from someone who described a grooming salon in another city and used abusive language about one of her staff by name. It had a written comment, not only stars.

Grace wanted to know how to delete a Facebook review like this without losing her other reviews. She went to her Page, clicked Reviews under Details, then See all next to Recent reviews. On the review she clicked Options, selected Report post and followed the on screen instructions, choosing the reason that matched the abusive language. She took a screenshot first. She also left a short public reply saying she had no record of the booking and inviting the person to message her. She kept recommendations switched on because most of her reviews were positive.

Screenshot first, then report

Once a review is removed or the reviewer changes its audience, it may vanish from your view. Whatever you decide about how to delete a Facebook review, a dated screenshot is your only record if you need to follow up or explain the history later.

Frequently asked questions

What is the short answer to how to delete a Facebook review?

A Page cannot delete someone else’s recommendation itself. Meta’s help pages give two routes: report the recommendation if it breaks the Community Standards, or turn Recommendations off for the whole Page.

Can I still turn off reviews on my Facebook Page?

Yes. Meta’s help page says you can toggle Allow others to view and leave reviews on your Page? on or off under Settings and privacy, Settings, then Page and tagging. Turning it off removes the rating and reviews from your Page.

Can I report a Facebook review that only has a star rating?

No. Meta says recommendations that only include a star rating cannot be reported.

Does Facebook check that reviewers were real customers?

No. Meta says it does not verify that users purchased the product or used the service they are reviewing or recommending on Pages.

Why can I not find a review I saw before?

Meta says it may have been removed for not following the Community Standards, or the person who posted it may have changed who can see it.

Why does my Page have no rating?

Meta says only Pages that turn on recommendations may show a rating. A Page may not have one until it has at least five reviews. Only recommendations shared publicly count towards it.
