A colleague mentions they looked you up and saw your old addresses, your phone number and your mother’s name on BeenVerified. Uncomfortable? The BeenVerified opt out starts on the opt out page BeenVerified lists in its official California registration, beenverified.com/svc/optout. If you live in California you can also reach BeenVerified with one free request through the state’s DROP platform. This Removal Lab guide sets out what the official records say about BeenVerified, which sister sites sit under the same registration and how to clear the result from Google afterwards.
The quick version: Use the opt out page BeenVerified names, check its sister sites, use DROP if you are Californian, then clean up Google.
- Save the web address and a screenshot of every BeenVerified result about you.
- Open the opt out page BeenVerified lists in its California registration and follow every instruction on it.
- Confirm any email or message it sends you.
- Search the sister sites listed in the same registration, such as PeopleLooker and PeopleSmart.
- California resident? File a DROP request. BeenVerified is on the state data broker registry.
- Ask Google to refresh or remove the old result once the listing is gone.
What we could verify about the BeenVerified opt out
We wanted to show you every click of the BeenVerified opt out. When we tried to open BeenVerified’s own pages for this guide on 24 October 2026, the site blocked our automated requests. So we cannot list the fields on its form, say whether it asks for ID or quote a processing time from BeenVerified itself. What we could open were two official sources: what BeenVerified filed with the state and what its sister site PeopleSmart publishes. That means its entry in the California data broker registry run by the California Privacy Protection Agency, plus PeopleSmart’s support and privacy pages. Every fact below comes from one of those or from a government page.
| Detail | What the California registry says |
|---|---|
| Registered name | BeenVerified, LLC and its subsidiaries and affiliates |
| Opt out and deletion instructions page | beenverified.com/svc/optout/search/comprehensive_optouts |
| Contact email | privacy@ltvco.com |
| Base | New York, NY |
| Collects data about minors | No |
| Collects precise geolocation | No |
| Says it is regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act | No |
BeenVerified opt out step by step
Step 1. Write down what you found
Copy the web address of each BeenVerified result and take a dated screenshot. Note the details shown: addresses, phone numbers, relatives, email addresses. You will use this to check the BeenVerified opt out worked and, if needed, to file a Google request, because Google says screenshots help it locate content.
Step 2. Open the official opt out page
Go to the opt out page BeenVerified lists in its California registration. This is where the BeenVerified opt out begins. It is the address BeenVerified itself gave the state as its page with opt out and deletion instructions. Read the whole page before you start and follow its steps exactly. We have not listed the fields because we could not open the page ourselves.
Step 3. Finish any confirmation
If the page sends you an email or asks you to confirm, do it the same day. Several people search sites, including Spokeo and PeopleFinders, only complete an opt out once you click an emailed link. Keep a note of the date you finished.
Step 4. Check the sister sites
BeenVerified’s registration covers a family of sites, not just one. The support centre of PeopleSmart, one of those sites, links its Do Not Sell My Personal Information option to a BeenVerified opt out search page. PeopleSmart’s page does not say whether one BeenVerified opt out covers every sister site, so search each one that is likely to hold your details and repeat the opt out wherever you find a listing.
Step 5. Use your state rights
If you live in California, file a DROP request (details below). You can also email privacy@ltvco.com, the contact address in the registry, with a privacy request under the California Consumer Privacy Act.
Step 6. Clear Google
Once the BeenVerified page has gone, ask Google to refresh its result. The Google section below has the steps.
The sites under the same BeenVerified registration
This is where the BeenVerified opt out gets bigger than people expect. The California registry entry lists these websites together under BeenVerified, LLC and its subsidiaries and affiliates.
| Kind of site | Websites listed in the registration |
|---|---|
| People search | beenverified.com, peoplelooker.com, peoplesmart.com, famfinder.com |
| Phone and email lookup | numberguru.com, reversephone.com, freephonetracer.com, emailfinder.com |
| Property and neighbourhood | ownerly.com, neighborwho.com |
| Vehicles | bumper.com |
| Other | moneybot5000.com, wingmate.com |
The grouping into kinds of site is ours. The list of names is the registry’s. The Lifetime Value Co., which lists BeenVerified among its brands, names many of the same sites on its own website.
How fast BeenVerified handles privacy requests
California data brokers have to report how many privacy requests they received and how fast they answered. BeenVerified’s current registry entry gives these figures.
| Request type | Received | Done in full | Done in part | Denied | Median days |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Delete my information | 31,905 | 19,791 | 11,512 | 602 | 3 |
| Opt out of sale or sharing | 657,801 | 378,175 | 168,625 | 111,001 | 10 |
| Know what is collected | 1,664 | 1,130 | 30 | 504 | 2 |
These are BeenVerified’s own reported numbers, not ours. They are not a promise about how your BeenVerified opt out will go. They do show that requests are often handled in part rather than in full and that some are denied. Keep your screenshots so you can check exactly what changed.
Why BeenVerified listings come back and how to monitor them
People search listings are built from records that keep changing. When you move, change your number or appear in a new public record, a new entry can be created that does not match the one you removed. BeenVerified does not publish its own explanation in a page we could open, so treat this as how these sites generally work rather than a BeenVerified statement.
- Repeat the search. Every three months, search BeenVerified and the sister sites for your name. Do it again a few weeks after any move and repeat the BeenVerified opt out for anything new.
- Use Google alerts for contact details. Google’s Results about you tool checks regularly for results with your phone number, home address or email and notifies you when new ones appear. Google says some features are still rolling out to adults in certain markets.
- Let DROP repeat the work. In California, brokers must check DROP at least every 45 days. CalPrivacy says they must also delete information they collect about you later.
What if the BeenVerified opt out does not work
Most problems with a BeenVerified opt out come down to a missed step or a second listing. Work down this list.
| Problem | What to try |
|---|---|
| The listing is still live after you finished | Check you confirmed every step and that the address matches your screenshot |
| A sister site still shows you | Run the opt out from that site too. Coverage across sites is not confirmed |
| You have heard nothing back | Email privacy@ltvco.com, the contact listed in the registry, with the web addresses |
| You are in California and want a deadline | Make a CCPA deletion request. Businesses must answer within 45 calendar days, or 90 with notice |
| The result is still in Google | Use Refresh outdated content or Results about you |
Remove the old BeenVerified result from Google
Google can only remove things from Google Search. It cannot delete a BeenVerified page. Once the page has gone, Google may still show the old title and snippet until it visits again, even after a successful BeenVerified opt out.
- Refresh outdated content. Select Request refresh, enter the old BeenVerified address on the Page tab and select Submit.
- Results about you. In the Google app, tap your profile picture, open the menu and choose Results about you, or open the Results about you page on the web. Select Get started, add your contact details, then use Request to remove on matching results.
- Personal information requests. For doxxing or other private details, Google’s removal request form asks for the web addresses of the pages.
Our guides to removing personal information from Google and removing your name from Google cover these tools in more depth.
Your rights: the BeenVerified opt out and California law
DROP reaches BeenVerified. DROP, the Delete Request and Opt out Platform from the California Privacy Protection Agency, sends one deletion request to every registered data broker. BeenVerified appears in the current registry, so a DROP request reaches it. DROP is free and open to California residents, who confirm residency through the California Identity Gateway. From 1 August 2026 brokers must check DROP at least every 45 days. Status updates can take up to 90 days and CalPrivacy expected brokers to have completed their first cycle by November 2026.
CCPA requests. The California Attorney General says you can ask a business to delete personal information it collected from you, correct it, tell you what it holds or stop selling and sharing it. Businesses must verify you for deletion, correction and access requests but not for an opt out of sale or sharing. PeopleSmart, which its privacy policy says is owned and operated by The Lifetime Value Co., says in that policy that the details you give must sufficiently match its records for it to verify a request and that it aims to answer within 45 days, with an extension to 90 days if it tells you in writing.
The public records catch. The Attorney General’s page also explains that publicly available information, such as government records, is not personal information under the law. That is a common reason requests are refused, which is why the BeenVerified opt out route matters even if you have legal rights.
Mistakes to avoid with the BeenVerified opt out
- Stopping at one site. The registration lists twelve other websites alongside BeenVerified.
- Using a link from a random guide. Start from the opt out page BeenVerified gave the state.
- Ignoring partial results. The registry figures show many requests are only done in part. Check every detail.
- Waiting for Google to catch up. Ask Google to refresh the result yourself.
- Thinking DROP is only for others. If you live in California, it is free and BeenVerified is on the list.
A worked example
This is a made up example to show the steps. It is not a client case.
Imagine a small business owner in Oakland who is about to start dating again. A friend shows her that BeenVerified lists her flat, her mobile and her teenage son’s name. She saves the web address and a screenshot, opens the opt out page BeenVerified lists with the state and follows each step, then confirms the request when asked. Next she searches PeopleLooker and PeopleSmart, finds the same details on PeopleLooker and repeats the opt out there.
Because she lives in California, she files a DROP request in one sitting. In Google she uses Results about you to ask for removal of two results showing her mobile, then submits the old BeenVerified address to Refresh outdated content a week later. She sets a reminder for three months and a second one for the week after her planned move.
When help makes sense
A single BeenVerified opt out is usually manageable on your own. Help makes sense when your details are spread across many sites, when someone is using them to harass you or when a family member’s information is exposed alongside yours. Our personal reputation removal service looks at the whole picture. See what we cannot remove for the honest limits.
Removal Lab offers a free, confidential case review. A specialist reads the content against the platform rules and replies within one business day. There is no upfront payment on qualifying cases and you pay only when the content is removed. We do not work for BeenVerified or any other site, we cannot delete anything ourselves and we never promise a removal. The platform decides.
