A stranger rang you, used your name and mentioned your street. Then you found it all on Intelius? The Intelius opt out works through suppression: Intelius told California regulators that you open your own profile and use the Do Not Sell My Personal Information or Suppress My Data link at the bottom of the page. This Removal Lab guide explains what that request covers, how it connects to the PeopleConnect Suppression Center behind several sister sites and how to clear the old result from Google.
The quick version: Suppress your profile, check the PeopleConnect sister sites, then clean up Google.
- Search Intelius for your name and open the profile that is yours.
- Scroll to the bottom and use the Do Not Sell My Personal Information or Suppress My Data link.
- Complete every step the suppression page shows, including any check of your name, email or phone.
- Check US Search, TruthFinder and Instant Checkmate for the same details.
- Ask Google to refresh or remove the old result once the profile is gone.
Intelius opt out: what the official records say
We tried to open the Intelius website for this guide on 24 October 2026 and it blocked our automated requests. The PeopleConnect Suppression Center loads as an app with no readable text for our tools. So the steps here come from three official sources we could open: the data broker registration Intelius, LLC filed with the California Attorney General, the PeopleConnect website and the PeopleConnect privacy policy last revised on 30 September 2026. The Intelius registration was approved on 29 January 2021, so its wording may have changed since. When the live page says something different, follow the live page.
One company, several brands
PeopleConnect lists Intelius, TruthFinder, Instant Checkmate, US Search and Classmates among its brands. Its privacy policy says each of these sites manages its own privacy policy. Its website links Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information to the PeopleConnect Suppression Center.
Intelius opt out step by step
Step 1. Find your own profile
The registration describes the Intelius opt out as something you start from a specific profile. Search Intelius for your name and the city you live in. Open the profile that matches your age, relatives and past addresses. Copy its web address and take a dated screenshot before you start the Intelius opt out.
Step 2. Use the link at the bottom of the page
Intelius told the California Attorney General that consumers can opt out by visiting the people search sites, selecting a specific profile and using the Do Not Sell My Personal Information or Suppress My Data link at the bottom of the page. Scroll to the foot of your profile and look for one of those two links. That link is the start of the Intelius opt out.
Step 3. Or start from PeopleConnect
The PeopleConnect website links Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information to the PeopleConnect Suppression Center. When we checked, the opt out addresses on TruthFinder and Instant Checkmate both redirected to the same Suppression Center. If the link on your Intelius profile is hard to find, this is another official way in.
Step 4. Complete the checks
PeopleConnect’s privacy policy says it must take reasonable steps to verify your identity before it responds to a privacy request and that this may involve your name, email address and phone number. Use details you can access straight away. Finish every screen the Suppression Center shows you.
Step 5. Record the date
Note the date you finished the Intelius opt out and what the page told you would happen next. You will need it if the profile is still live a few weeks later.
Which sites the Intelius opt out covers
This is the question most people ask about the Intelius opt out. The honest answer comes in two parts: what Intelius told the state in 2021 and what we could see ourselves this month.
| Site | What the official source says | Source |
|---|---|---|
| intelius.com | Listed as an opt out address | Intelius 2021 California registration |
| ussearch.com and pro.ussearch.com | Listed as opt out addresses | Intelius 2021 California registration |
| Other similar people search sites the company owns and operates | The registration says the opt out applies to these too, without naming them | Intelius 2021 California registration |
| TruthFinder | Its opt out address redirects to the PeopleConnect Suppression Center. Coverage not stated | Our check, 24 October 2026 |
| Instant Checkmate | Its opt out address redirects to the PeopleConnect Suppression Center. Coverage not stated | Our check, 24 October 2026 |
| Classmates | Named as a PeopleConnect brand. No opt out detail in the sources we opened | PeopleConnect website |
So the Intelius opt out reaches US Search according to Intelius itself. For TruthFinder and Instant Checkmate, the shared Suppression Center is a strong hint, not a confirmed promise. Search each site after your request and repeat it wherever your details still show.
Contact details Intelius gave California
| Purpose | Intelius | US Search |
|---|---|---|
| California privacy requests by phone | 888 245 1655 | 888 712 0108 or 833 949 2444 |
| California privacy requests by email | support@mailer.intelius.com | support@ussearch.com or professional-support@ussearch.com |
| Written deletion demands from protected individuals | support@mailer.intelius.com or by post | support@ussearch.com, professional-support@ussearch.com or by post |
These details are from the 2021 registration. If a number no longer works, use the Suppression Center or the contact routes in the current PeopleConnect privacy policy.
Why Intelius listings come back
PeopleConnect’s privacy policy says it may link or combine information with other information it receives from third parties. People search records are rebuilt as new data arrives. A move, a new phone number or a new public record can produce a profile that looks new to the system even after a successful Intelius opt out. Neither Intelius nor PeopleConnect explains reappearing profiles in a page we could open, so take this as the general pattern rather than their statement.
A simple monitoring routine
- Search Intelius, US Search, TruthFinder and Instant Checkmate every three months.
- Repeat the Intelius opt out a few weeks after you move house or change number.
- Turn on Google’s Results about you alerts for your phone number, home address and email. Google says it checks regularly and notifies you about new matching results, with some features still rolling out to adults in certain markets.
What if the Intelius opt out does not work
- Check the profile address. Make sure the profile that is still live is the one you suppressed and not a second profile created from a different record.
- Run it again from the Suppression Center. Use the PeopleConnect link rather than the profile footer, or the other way round.
- Email the address Intelius registered. Send the profile web address to support@mailer.intelius.com and keep a copy.
- Appeal a refusal. PeopleConnect’s privacy policy says residents of the states it lists can appeal a denied request by email with the subject line Privacy Rights Appeal and that it will respond to an appeal within 45 days.
- Deal with Google in parallel. Google’s tools work whether or not the profile is still live.
Remove the old Intelius result from Google
Google says it can only remove results from Google Search and cannot remove a page from the website itself. Once the Intelius opt out has worked, the old result can linger until Google visits again.
| Situation | Google route | What Google says |
|---|---|---|
| Profile gone, result still in Google | Refresh outdated content | Select Request refresh, enter the address on the Page tab, select Submit |
| Result shows your phone, home address or email | Results about you | Use Request to remove. Approved removals may take a few hours to take effect |
| Lots of your details gathered on one page with no legitimate purpose | Personal information removal request | Google lists a significant amount of aggregated personal info without a legitimate purpose as a form of doxxing it can remove |
Google adds that a removal can be full, so the page no longer appears, or partial, so it no longer appears for searches with your name. For a fuller walkthrough read our guides on removing personal information from Google and how to remove your name from Google.
Privacy rights that sit behind the Intelius opt out
California. The California Attorney General says consumers can ask businesses to delete, correct or disclose personal information and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses must answer requests to know, delete and correct within 45 calendar days, extendable to 90 with notice. They must act on opt outs within 15 business days. You can authorise someone to act for you. PeopleConnect’s policy says an authorised agent needs a signed written authorisation or a valid power of attorney plus your email address.
DROP. California residents can file one free request through DROP, the Delete Request and Opt out Platform run by the California Privacy Protection Agency. From 1 August 2026, registered brokers must check it at least every 45 days. Intelius filed a California registration in 2021. Check the current CalPrivacy registry to see which PeopleConnect companies are listed this year.
Public records. The Attorney General notes that publicly available information, such as government records, is not personal information under the CCPA and is a common reason requests are turned down. Suppression on the site is therefore still worth doing.
Other states. PeopleConnect’s policy lists rights for residents of several other states, including an appeal route. Nevada residents can send a request with the subject line Nevada Do Not Sell Request. Check the policy for your own state.
Mistakes to avoid with the Intelius opt out
- Assuming every PeopleConnect site is covered. Only Intelius, US Search and similar sites the company runs are named in the registration.
- Suppressing the wrong profile. Match the age and relatives first.
- Skipping verification. PeopleConnect says it must verify you before it acts on privacy requests.
- Relying on old phone numbers. The registration dates from 2021. Use the Suppression Center first.
- Forgetting Google. Suppression on Intelius does not refresh Google.
A worked example
This is a made up example to show the steps. It is not a client case.
Imagine a retired police officer in Sacramento who finds his home address on Intelius and a near identical profile on TruthFinder. He opens his Intelius profile, scrolls to the footer and uses Suppress My Data. The Suppression Center asks him to confirm details, which he does with his email and mobile. A week later the Intelius profile is gone and he checks US Search, where he no longer appears.
TruthFinder still shows him, so he follows its opt out address. It takes him to the same Suppression Center, where he submits again. He asks Google to refresh the two old results and turns on Results about you alerts. Because he lives in California, he also files a DROP request. Three months later he searches all four PeopleConnect brands again.
When help makes sense
One Intelius opt out is usually straightforward to do yourself. Help makes sense when several brands keep rebuilding your profile, when your address puts you at risk or when old results are hurting your work. Our personal reputation removal service can look at every site at once. You can read how Removal Lab works first.
Removal Lab offers a free, confidential case review. A specialist reads the content against the platform rules and replies within one business day. On qualifying cases there is no upfront payment and you pay only when the content is removed. We do not work for Intelius, PeopleConnect or any other site, we cannot delete anything ourselves and we never promise a removal. The platform decides.

Frequently asked questions
How do I opt out of Intelius?

Does the Intelius opt out cover US Search?
Yes, according to the registration Intelius filed in California in 2021, which lists ussearch.com and pro.ussearch.com as opt out addresses. It also covers other similar people search sites the company owns and operates.
Does the Intelius opt out cover TruthFinder and Instant Checkmate?
We could not confirm that from an official page. Their opt out addresses redirect to the same PeopleConnect Suppression Center, so check each site and submit again if you still appear.

PeopleConnect says it must take reasonable steps to verify identity before responding to privacy requests and that this may involve your name, email address and phone number.
Who owns Intelius?
PeopleConnect lists Intelius as one of its brands, alongside TruthFinder, Instant Checkmate, US Search and Classmates.
