A guest who never turned up at your hotel has just scored you 2 out of 10 for a rooftop pool you do not even have? Expedia review removal is possible only when a review breaks Expedia Group’s content guidelines, which Removal Lab checks for you for free before you file anything.
A specialist reads the review against those guidelines and replies within one business day. On qualifying cases there is no upfront payment. You pay only when the review is removed. Removal Lab does not work for Expedia Group and cannot delete anything itself. Expedia Group makes every decision.
This page covers hotels and rentals on Expedia, Hotels.com and Vrbo. Every rule comes from the content guidelines each of those sites publishes and from Expedia Group’s own partner pages. The links are at the end.

Expedia, Hotels.com and Vrbo: one set of review rules
Before you file, it helps to know which rules apply. We opened the content guidelines on Expedia, Hotels.com and Vrbo. All three carry the same review rules: the six month window, the same seven removal reasons, the same line that reviews are not removed simply for being negative and the same review dispute form for partners.
That means Expedia review removal, Hotels.com review removal and a Vrbo dispute all follow one rule book. The differences are about how reviews are collected, not about what gets removed.
| Site | Where the rules live | What is different |
|---|---|---|
| Expedia | Expedia content guidelines | The main version of the rules |
| Hotels.com | Hotels.com content guidelines | Same review rules and the same dispute route |
| Vrbo | Vrbo content guidelines | Two way reviews: once one side reviews, the other has 14 days and both publish together |
Expedia Group’s developer pages add one more detail. They say Expedia Group verifies reviews to check the traveller booked with Expedia Group. They also say travellers may receive a savings voucher for submitting a review. The guidelines add that incentivised reviews offered by Expedia are labelled as such.
How Expedia review removal works
Expedia Group moderates every review with a mix of automated tools and human moderators. If a review breaks the guidelines, it is not published, or it is taken down if it is already live. The writer gets an email saying why. In some cases they can resubmit for another round of moderation.
Three rules shape every Expedia review removal case. Expedia Group does not edit reviews or responses on anyone’s behalf. It publishes all reviews that comply, positive and negative. It also says plainly that it does not remove reviews simply because they contain negative content.
So the question is never whether a review hurts. It is whether the review breaks one of the written reasons below.
Which reviews qualify for Expedia review removal
Expedia’s guidelines list the circumstances in which it may reject or remove a review or a partner response. These are the grounds we use for Expedia review removal.
| Removal reason | What it looks like at a hotel or rental |
|---|---|
| Personal data about another person | A review naming a receptionist in full or giving a host’s home address |
| Proven fake or fraudulent | A review that evidence shows was invented or submitted fraudulently |
| Offensive, unlawful or prohibited content | Slurs, threats, sexual content, links, QR codes, social handles or room rates |
| The traveller did not fulfil or attempt to fulfil the booking | A review from someone with no sign they ever tried to use the reservation |
| The traveller broke applicable partner rules | A review from a guest found to have broken the property’s own rules, such as house rules |
| Duplicate submission | The same review posted twice |
| Wrong property, unit or activity | A review clearly about another hotel. Not removable if you relocated the guest and they had no other option |
The attempted booking rule needs care. The guidelines say travellers who tried to use their booking can still review. That includes a guest who was not offered a room or could not get in, a guest who left early, a guest whose booking was cancelled mid stay and a guest whose booking you cancelled within 24 hours of check in. A guest turned away at the desk is allowed to say so.
Review threats and extortion
Expedia’s guidelines set rules for both sides. Travellers may not threaten to use a review against a partner to get refunds or extra compensation. Partners may not ask for a positive review in exchange for a refund or ask a guest to revise a review for extra compensation. Partners also must not write reviews for travellers, offer incentives for reviews or ask anyone to post negative reviews of competitors.
If a guest threatened you and then posted the review, that message is the centre of your Expedia review removal case. Keep it exactly as sent.
What Expedia will not remove
Being honest saves you a wasted dispute. Expedia review removal will not work for a negative review from a real guest about a real stay, however harsh it feels. A cold room, a slow check in or a view that disappointed are opinions about the experience.
Expedia Group also says it does not set up direct contact between property partners and reviewers. You cannot message the reviewer through the review itself. Your public response is the tool for that. Our page on what we cannot remove explains the same line across every platform.
The honest test
Find the removal reason in the table above that the review fits. If you cannot, Expedia review removal is unlikely. A calm response and fresh reviews will help you more than a dispute that names no rule.
How to dispute an Expedia review as a partner
Hotel owners often search for remove Expedia review and expect a button in the extranet that deletes it. There is not one. Expedia’s guidelines give partners two routes. Every Expedia review removal request starts with the same preparation.
- Match the review to a booking. Find the reservation, the dates and the guest messages. Check whether the guest arrived, attempted to arrive or never came.
- Pick one removal reason. Use the wording from the guidelines, such as personal data or the wrong property.
- Gather the proof. Reservation records, messages and anything else that shows the reason applies.
- Submit the review dispute form. The guidelines say partners can submit it through their partner services tools. On Expedia and Hotels.com that means your partner account.
- Or contact Customer Service. The guidelines name this as the second route for partners.
- Use the report flag for clear content breaches. Logged in users can click the report review flag next to a published review. It suits obvious breaches such as personal data or slurs.
Expedia Group’s partner help pages sit behind the partner login, so we do not guess the exact menu path here. Follow the review dispute option inside your account and keep a copy of everything you send for your Expedia review removal file.
Ownership changes and major renovations
This is the one route to Expedia review removal that is not about a broken rule. Expedia’s guidelines say it may consider requests from property partners for reviews to be removed after a property ownership change or the completion of major renovations.
It is a request, not an automatic reset. Show the date of the change and what changed. For a renovation, photos and building work records help. Vrbo has its own version for owners who buy a rental: historical reviews can be moved to the new listing and are labelled as relating to a different management or ownership.
What evidence helps Expedia review removal
Expedia Group cannot see your front desk. For Expedia review removal, the evidence has to show the reason in a form a moderator can check quickly.
| Situation | Evidence that helps | What to leave out |
|---|---|---|
| Guest never attempted the stay | Reservation status, no show record and messages showing no attempt to arrive | Guesses about the guest’s motives |
| Review is about another property | Details in the review that match a different hotel, such as a pool you do not have | Comments about the other hotel |
| Threat for a refund | The message where the guest demanded money or a free night before posting | Edited or cropped screenshots |
| Personal data of staff | The exact words that name or identify the person | More personal data in your request |
| Guest broke your rules | The rules shown on the listing and the record of the breach | Private details of other guests |
| Duplicate review | Links or screenshots of both copies | Nothing else is needed |
How long Expedia review removal takes
Expedia Group does not publish a timeline for review disputes. Anyone who promises you a date is guessing. Two published time rules still matter for Expedia review removal.
First, guests must submit a review within six months of the stay. A review cannot appear much later than that. Second, accommodation reviews are removed after three years, except where a property has only a limited number of reviews. Old reviews do age out, which is worth knowing before you dispute a very old one.
Hotels.com review removal and Vrbo disputes
Hotels.com review removal works exactly like Expedia review removal. The Hotels.com content guidelines carry the same removal reasons, the same line on negative content and the same review dispute form. Many hotels sell rooms on both sites, so check both for the same review.
Vrbo adds a two way system. Once either the traveller or the partner submits a review, the other side has 14 days to submit theirs. Both are then published at the same time. If the other side does not review within 14 days, the first review is published and no more reviews can be added for that stay. A Vrbo host who wants to raise a guest’s review uses the same review dispute route through their partner tools.
What to do if Expedia says no
A refusal does not end things. Here is what still helps after a failed Expedia review removal request.
- Respond publicly. Expedia Group’s partner guide says to open the Post stay reviews tool, sort the list to show reviews awaiting a reply, enter your response and submit it. Responses go through the same moderation as reviews.
- Keep it calm and short. Thank the guest, address the issue and say what changed. Leave out names and booking details. Expedia Group’s Partner Provided Content Policy also bans AI generated or AI edited content that makes false allegations of traveller damage or wrongdoing.
- Go back only with something new. A new record or a clearer reason can change a decision. Repeating the request rarely does.
- Collect fresh reviews. The partner guide says you can send a templated review request through Partner Central messages or switch on automatic post stay requests.
- Never trade a refund for a change. The guidelines ban asking guests to revise a review for compensation.
UK and US rules on hotel reviews
Expedia Group sells stays around the world, so local law sits behind the platform rules. Two sets matter most for our clients.
- UK. Schedule 20 of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act lists fake reviews and concealed incentivised reviews as banned practices. It also bans offering services to traders that help with them. The CMA’s fake reviews guidance (CMA208) says traders should not suppress genuine negative reviews and that genuine reviews should not be removed merely because a trader objects.
- US. The FTC rule on consumer reviews bans incentives tied to a review’s sentiment in 16 CFR 465.4 and bans groundless threats or intimidation used to stop or remove a review in 16 CFR 465.7.
Read together with Expedia’s own rules, the message is simple. Report reviews that break the guidelines. Never pressure a real guest to delete a real opinion. That is the only kind of Expedia review removal we take on at Removal Lab.
How Removal Lab helps with Expedia review removal
We start with a free, confidential check. Send the review through our case review form. A specialist replies within one business day and looks at:
- Which of the seven removal reasons the review really fits, if any.
- Whether the guest attempted the booking, using the rules on who may still review.
- Whether the same review sits on Hotels.com or Vrbo as well as Expedia.
- Which records prove the point and what to leave out.
- Whether an ownership change or renovation request fits better than a dispute.
Then we tell you plainly whether Expedia review removal is realistic. Where it is, we write the dispute and build the evidence pack. The form goes from your partner account, so you submit it. Where it is not realistic, we say so and help you write a calm response. On qualifying cases there is no upfront payment. You pay only when the review is removed. Our review removal cost guide explains how fees work across the industry.
Hotels and rentals rarely live on one site. See review removal for restaurants and hotels, Booking.com review removal, Tripadvisor review removal and Airbnb review removal. Our business review removal service handles several sites together. If a review looks invented, read fake review removal. If it makes damaging false claims, read defamation removal. Every site we cover is on review removal platforms.
How Removal Lab works
- Send the link. WhatsApp, email or the two field form. Two minutes, no long questionnaire.
- Free policy check. A specialist reads it against the platform rules and tells you honestly whether it qualifies.
- We build and file the case. The right policy, the right channel, the evidence attached. We handle the appeal too.
- Pay only when it is gone. No upfront payment on qualifying cases. If the platform says no, you owe nothing.
What we will never do
- Promise a removal. The platform decides, not us.
- Post fake reviews or pay anyone to delete a review.
- Pressure, threaten or try to identify a reviewer.
- Charge an upfront fee on a case that does not qualify.
A worked example: the guest who booked the wrong city
This is a made up example to show the steps. It is not a client case.
A small hotel in Manchester gets an Expedia booking for a Saturday night. The guest never arrives and never messages. On Sunday the guest writes a 1 out of 5 review about a hotel with a rooftop pool and rude staff who refused to find the booking. The Manchester hotel has no pool. The guest had gone to a hotel with a similar name in another city.
- Free check. Two reasons may fit: wrong property and no attempt to fulfil this booking at this hotel. The rooftop pool detail matters.
- Evidence. The no show record, the empty message thread, the hotel’s listing showing no pool and the review text itself.
- Dispute. The manager submits the review dispute form from the partner account, names both reasons and attaches the records.
- Response. While waiting, a short public reply says the hotel has no pool and the guest may have stayed elsewhere. It names no one.
- Decision. Expedia Group decides. If it agrees, the review comes down. If not, the reply stays as the hotel’s side of the story.
Notice what made this case worth filing. It was not the low score. It was a written reason backed by records. That is how Expedia review removal works when it works.
