Written by the Removal Lab team.
A buyer gave your shop one star and the only complaint is the courier? Etsy review removal is possible only when a review breaks Etsy’s review rules, such as a review solely about the delivery company, which Removal Lab checks for you for free before you report it.
A specialist reads the review against Etsy’s Buyer Policy, Seller Policy and help centre rules and replies within one business day. On qualifying cases there is no upfront payment. You pay only when the review is removed. Removal Lab does not work for Etsy and cannot delete anything itself. Etsy makes every decision.
Every rule and step on this page comes from Etsy’s own help centre and policies. The links are at the end.
Etsy review removal: the key facts

| How a seller asks | Report in Shop Manager, or Report this review on Etsy.com or the Etsy Seller App |
| Report deadline | Until 100 days after the item’s estimated delivery date |
| Is it anonymous | Yes. The reviewer is not told who reported them |
| Your public response | One per review, within 100 days of the buyer’s last edit |

How Etsy review removal works
Buyers leave a one to five star rating and can add a photo or video. Etsy’s Buyer Policy says physical items can be reviewed within 100 days, counted from the earlier of the confirmed or estimated delivery date. Digital items can be reviewed within 100 days of the first download or within 12 months of purchase, whichever comes first. Buyers can edit a review any number of times during that window.
Etsy reserves the right to remove reviews, photos and videos that break its policies or Terms of Use. Its help page on negative reviews is blunt about the limit: Etsy Support cannot remove a review at a seller’s request. Etsy removes a review only if it breaks a policy.
So Etsy review removal is never about how a review makes you feel. It is about matching the review to one of Etsy’s written reasons and reporting it the right way, once.
Which reviews qualify for Etsy review removal
Etsy lists the reviews and responses it will remove. These are the grounds we use for Etsy review removal.
| Etsy reason | What it looks like in your shop |
|---|---|
| Identifying private information | Your home address, a full name or a phone number in the review |
| Obscene, racist or harassing language or imagery | Slurs, sexual images or personal abuse |
| Breaks the Anti Discrimination Policy | An attack on you for who you are rather than what you sold |
| Prohibited medical drug claims | A review making medical drug claims of a kind Etsy prohibits |
| Solely advertising or spam | A review that promotes another shop or website |
| Only about things outside your control | A review only about a named delivery company, Etsy or another third party |
| Threats or extortion | A buyer who demanded a refund or a free item before posting one star |
| Shilling or falsely inflating a score | Reviews arranged to push a shop’s rating up |
The Seller Policy backs this up. Reviews and responses may not contain graphic, mature or obscene language or imagery, be about things outside the seller’s control, include shilling or undermine the integrity of the reviews system. The Buyer Policy adds that its content rules ban threats, harassment and extortion.
Reviews about the courier, Etsy or a third party
This is the reason sellers raise most often. The rule has two edges. Etsy will remove a review that is only about something outside your control, such as a named delivery company. Etsy also says a review that mixes a third party complaint with feedback about your item or service may not qualify.
Read the review closely before you report it. A review saying only that the courier was slow is a strong case for Etsy review removal. A review saying the courier was slow and the colour was wrong probably stays.
What Etsy will not remove
Etsy is just as clear about where Etsy review removal stops. Its help page lists these:
- Honest opinions. A review that follows the rules stays, even if you disagree with the buyer’s view of quality, craftsmanship, materials, the description or your communication.
- Item not received claims. Etsy says it cannot remove a review claiming the buyer did not receive the item, even if tracking shows it was delivered.
- Mixed complaints. A review that blends a third party complaint with feedback about your item may not qualify.
Etsy’s page on Purchase Protection for Sellers does not mention reviews at all. Neither does its negative review guide when it talks about cases. Treat a case and a review as two separate things. Our page on what we cannot remove explains the same line across every platform.
The honest test
Find the Etsy reason in the table above that the review fits. If you cannot, Etsy review removal is unlikely. A short, kind response and a fast fix for the buyer will protect your shop better than a report that names no rule.
How to report a review on Etsy
People search for remove Etsy review or Etsy seller review dispute, but Etsy does not run a dispute process for reviews. It runs a report. These are Etsy’s own steps from its help page on how to report a review.
From Shop Manager
- Open Shop Manager and choose your shop under Sales Channels.
- Scroll to the Reviews section and find the review.
- Choose Report.
- Add any additional information and submit.
From Etsy.com or the Etsy Seller App
- Find the review on Etsy.com or in the app.
- Select Report this review under it.
Etsy adds a few rules for every Etsy review removal report. You can report a review, a photo or video in a review or a seller response. The deadline is 100 days after the item’s estimated delivery date. You only need to report a review once. Do not discuss a reported review in Etsy’s community spaces. Reports are not for intellectual property disputes, which go through Etsy’s IP Policy instead.
Before you respond: the timing rule that catches sellers out
Etsy’s negative review page sets out rules that change how you should act in the first hour.
- You can post one public response per review, within 100 days of the date the buyer last edited it.
- You can delete your response, but you cannot edit it or post another.
- Once you respond, the buyer can no longer edit the review or the rating, even if you delete your response.
- Buyers cannot reply to your response.
- Responses with tracking numbers, external links or private information are removed.
Put those together. If the problem can be fixed and the buyer might update the review, message them privately first. Etsy’s steps are Shop Manager, then Orders, then the mail icon next to the order, then type your message and select Send. Respond in public only once you are happy for the review to stay as it is. If the review breaks a rule, report it within the 100 day window as part of your Etsy review removal plan.
What evidence helps an Etsy seller review dispute
Etsy’s report form lets you add information. For Etsy review removal, a few clear facts carry more weight than a long story.
| Situation | Facts that help | What to leave out |
|---|---|---|
| Review only about the courier | Point out that the review mentions nothing about the item or your service | Blame aimed at the buyer |
| Threat or extortion | The Etsy message where the buyer demanded a refund or free item for a better review | Messages from outside Etsy you cannot show |
| Private information | The exact words that identify you or someone else | Another copy of the private details |
| Purchase made only to leave a bad review | Order details that show the purchase was not genuine | Accusations you cannot support |
| Spam or advertising | The link or shop the review promotes | Nothing else is needed |
| Harassment or discrimination | The exact words used | Your own heated replies |
How long Etsy review removal takes
Etsy’s help pages do not publish a timeline for checking a report. What they do say is that Etsy’s team checks whether the content breaks its policies. If it complies, no action is taken. If not, Etsy takes appropriate action. You do not need to report the same review again while you wait.
The deadline matters more than the wait. You can report until 100 days after the estimated delivery date. A seller who waits too long loses the chance of Etsy review removal for that review altogether.
What to do if Etsy says no
A review that stays is not the end of your shop. Here is what still helps after a failed Etsy review removal report.
- Fix the problem privately. Etsy says buyers may edit a review within the review window if you have not yet responded. A replacement or a refund offered as good service, with no request about the review, can turn a buyer around.
- Respond once, carefully. Address the specific concern and any change you made. Focus on the product and the service, not the reviewer.
- Never trade a refund for a better review. That would cross the lines in the rules below.
- Check for a legal route. If a review makes false statements of fact that damage your business, read our page on defamation removal and speak to a lawyer.
- Keep selling well. Fresh honest reviews push one bad review down your shop page.
Rules for Etsy sellers in the UK and US
Etsy has its own rule against review abuse. Its Seller Policy calls interference strictly prohibited and gives examples, including buying from a seller only to leave a negative review and using a buyer account to upvote another shop’s negative reviews. National law adds more.
- UK. Schedule 20 of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act bans fake reviews and concealed incentivised reviews. The CMA’s fake reviews guidance (CMA208) says traders should not limit genuine negative reviews by editing, withholding or removing them.
- US. 16 CFR 465.4 bans offering anything for a review that expresses a particular view. 16 CFR 465.7 bans groundless threats or intimidation used to stop a review or get one removed.
In plain words, you may report a review that breaks Etsy’s rules. You may not pay for a better one or pressure a buyer into deleting a real opinion. Removal Lab only does the first kind of Etsy review removal.
How Removal Lab helps with Etsy review removal
We start with a free, confidential check. Send the review through our case review form. A specialist replies within one business day and looks at:
- Which Etsy reason the review really fits, if any.
- Whether you are still inside the 100 day report window.
- Whether to message the buyer before you respond in public.
- What to write in the report and what to leave out.
- How to word your one public response so it helps future buyers.
Then we tell you plainly whether Etsy review removal is realistic. Where it is, we write the report text with you. You press Report in your own Shop Manager. Where it is not realistic, we say so and help with the response. On qualifying cases there is no upfront payment. You pay only when the review is removed. Our review removal cost guide explains how fees work across the industry.
Most online sellers live on more than one marketplace. See review removal for ecommerce brands and Amazon review removal. If buyers also review your own store elsewhere, see Trustpilot review removal or our business review removal service. If a review looks invented, read fake review removal. Every site we cover is on review removal platforms.
How Removal Lab works
- Send the link. WhatsApp, email or the two field form. Two minutes, no long questionnaire.
- Free policy check. A specialist reads it against the platform rules and tells you honestly whether it qualifies.
- We build and file the case. The right policy, the right channel, the evidence attached. We handle the appeal too.
- Pay only when it is gone. No upfront payment on qualifying cases. If the platform says no, you owe nothing.
What we will never do
- Promise a removal. The platform decides, not us.
- Post fake reviews or pay anyone to delete a review.
- Pressure, threaten or try to identify a reviewer.
- Charge an upfront fee on a case that does not qualify.
A worked example: the parcel in the rain
This is a made up example to show the steps. It is not a client case.
A ceramics seller in Bristol ships a mug to a buyer. The parcel arrives late and soaked. The buyer leaves one star that says only that the delivery company left the box in the rain and took a week longer than promised. The mug itself is not mentioned. The seller is tempted to reply straight away.
- Free check. The review is only about a named delivery company. That is one of Etsy’s removal reasons, so Etsy review removal has a real chance.
- Timing. The review came in well inside the 100 day report window. The seller holds off on a public response for now.
- Report. In Shop Manager she opens Reviews, chooses Report and adds one line: the review is solely about the delivery company and says nothing about the item or her service.
- Message. She also messages the buyer through the order to check the mug arrived safely.
- Decision. Etsy decides. If it removes the review, the case is closed. If it keeps it, she posts one calm response about how she packs mugs for wet weather.
Now change one detail. If the buyer had added that the glaze looked dull, the review would mix a courier complaint with feedback about the item. Etsy says that may not qualify. That is why honest Etsy review removal starts with reading every word.
