Searched your own name and found a Nuwber listing with your home address and phone number on it? The Nuwber opt out starts at Nuwber’s own removal page and needs no membership, according to its help centre. You can do it yourself without paying for a plan, or Removal Lab can handle it for you.
One honest note before the steps. Nuwber’s main site blocked our reader, so its opt out page and privacy policy did not load for our check. Its help centre and its California data broker registration did load. Everything below comes from those pages, so confirm each screen of the Nuwber opt out as you go.
The quick version: Nuwber opt out
- Search Nuwber for your name, open your listing and copy its web address.
- Open the Nuwber opt out page at nuwber.com/removal/link and follow its screens. No membership is needed.
- If the page will not work for you, email support@nuwber.com or call 844 912 1292 during business hours.
- Once Nuwber processes it, paste your listing address into your browser. Nuwber says a 410 response means the page is gone.
- Ask Google to refresh the old result, then check Nuwber again every few months. Or send the links to Removal Lab for a free check.
How to opt out of Nuwber step by step
Step 1. Find and copy your listing
Search Nuwber for your full name. Open the listing that is clearly you and copy the web address from your browser bar. You need that address twice: for the Nuwber opt out itself and later to check the page is gone. The FTC suggests also searching by phone number or address, because people search sites often hold more than one record for the same person.
Step 2. Open the Nuwber opt out page
Search engines list Nuwber’s opt out page at nuwber.com/removal/link under the title Nuwber Opt out. It blocked our reader, so we cannot list its fields or buttons. Follow each screen as it appears and give only the details it asks for. Nuwber’s help centre also has an article on whether you have to pay to remove your data. That answer did not load for us.
Step 3. You do not need a subscription
Nuwber sells both free and subscription searches. Its help centre is clear that you do not have to be a member to remove your listing, so never pay for a plan just to make a Nuwber opt out request.
Step 4. Use email or phone if the form fails
Nuwber’s California data broker registration says consumers can make opt out or CCPA requests by emailing support@nuwber.com or calling 844 912 1292 during business hours. Include the web address of your listing so support can find it quickly.
Step 5. Check that the page is gone
Nuwber’s help centre says to come back once your request has been processed and paste your listing’s address into the browser. If it returns a 410 response code, Nuwber says your personal page has been removed. If anything goes wrong, Nuwber asks you to contact support@nuwber.com.
Step 6. Repeat for every listing
Nuwber’s help centre lists an article on what to do if you have multiple listings in its database. We could not read the answer, so treat each listing as its own Nuwber opt out and check each address separately.
What Nuwber shows and where it gets data
Nuwber describes itself as a service for searching publicly available information on people, including yourself. Its help centre explains where that information comes from. Knowing the sources helps you see what a Nuwber opt out can and cannot reach.
| Where the data comes from | What Nuwber says it includes |
|---|---|
| Publicly available sources | Phone directories, the internet and social network profiles |
| Address details from those sources | Addresses, street names, cities, states and ZIP codes |
| Third party data suppliers | Public information from phone directories, government public records and businesses you have dealt with, such as car dealers or real estate agencies |
| How it is put together | Collected from a wide range of public sources, then sorted and formatted into a single profile |
| How often it changes | Nuwber says it regularly updates the information |
Nuwber’s help centre also describes a Contact and Personal Information lookup and a background report. The answers that list their exact contents did not load for us.
| What Nuwber told California’s data broker registry | Answer |

Is Nuwber a background check site?
Not in the legal sense. Nuwber says it is not a consumer reporting agency as defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act and does not provide consumer reports. Its help centre says Nuwber is for finding people in your personal life. It says you may not use it for any business purpose or to make decisions about consumer credit, employment, insurance or tenant screening.
That matters for your Nuwber opt out in one way. Nuwber’s listings are not meant to be used to judge you for a job or a flat. If you are going through a real background check, it comes from a consumer reporting agency. The FTC says you have the right to dispute incomplete or inaccurate information with that agency.
What the Nuwber opt out does and does not remove
- Your page on Nuwber. Once processed, the listing should return a 410 response. That is Nuwber’s own test.
- Republishing on Nuwber. Nuwber says it will take every reasonable step possible to block your information from being republished on its site.
- Other websites. Nuwber warns that similar information may be republished on other search websites it does not control. A Nuwber removal does not reach them.
- Google. Nuwber says removed pages may still appear in search results for a while, usually 2 days to 8 weeks.
- Public records. The FTC says opting out does not delete public records, which can still be found on government websites.
None of the official sources we opened name any Nuwber sister sites. For the other big people search sites, see our guides to the Spokeo opt out, the Whitepages opt out and the ThatsThem opt out. Our data broker removal page explains how we find every site that holds the same address.
Your rights in California: DROP and the CCPA
If you live in California you have two more routes alongside the Nuwber opt out.
- DROP. CalPrivacy’s Delete Request and Opt out Platform lets a California resident send one deletion request to registered data brokers. It is free and you confirm residency through the California Identity Gateway. Brokers must check DROP at least once every 45 days and status updates can take up to 90 days.
- What DROP does not cover. CalPrivacy says public records such as vehicle, real estate or voting records are exempt, along with information you gave a business directly.
- The CCPA. The California Attorney General says you can ask a business to delete personal information it collected from you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses must respond within 45 calendar days, with one extension of 45 days if they tell you.
Nuwber has appeared on California’s data broker registry, which CalPrivacy now runs. Check the current CalPrivacy registry if you want to confirm it is listed this year. We found no verified law outside California to add, so we have left other states out rather than guess.
How to clear the old Google result
After a Nuwber opt out, Nuwber itself points to Google’s outdated content tool to speed things up. Here is how to use it, plus Google’s contact details tool.
- Refresh the outdated result. In Google’s Refresh outdated content tool, select Request refresh, enter the old Nuwber address on the Page tab and submit. Our guide to the Refresh outdated content tool walks through it.
- Use Results about you. Open the To review tab and select Request to remove for results that show your phone, home address or email. Or search your name, select the More icon next to a result, then Remove result and It shows my personal info and I don’t want it there. See how to use Google Results about you.
- Check the rest of the page. Our guides to removing personal information from Google and removing your name from Google cover what Google will and will not take down.
Google says it cannot remove anything from the website itself, which is why the Nuwber opt out has to come first.
If your listing comes back after a Nuwber opt out
Nuwber encourages people to check its site regularly and to request removal of any new record about them. We suggest a search every three months. That timing is ours, not Nuwber’s.
- Keep a list of every listing address you sent through the Nuwber opt out.
- Save any emails from Nuwber support in one folder.
- Paste each old address into your browser when you check. A 410 response means it is still gone.
- Search your name with your newest address, because a move can create a new record.
If a listing is being used to threaten you or share your address with people who mean harm, read our doxxing removal page before you do anything else.
A worked example
This is a made up example to show the steps. It is not a client case.
A retired firefighter in Tucson finds two Nuwber listings: one with his current house and one with a flat he left years ago. He copies both addresses and sends each through the Nuwber opt out page. The second one will not go through, so he emails support@nuwber.com with the listing address.
Once Nuwber has processed both, he pastes both addresses into his browser and gets a 410 response for each. Google still shows the old title for one of them, so he uses the Refresh outdated content tool. He sets a reminder for three months and turns on Results about you alerts for his phone number.
When it makes sense to get help
A single Nuwber opt out is a short job. Help makes sense when your details spread across many people search sites, when a listing is being used against you or when search results are hurting your work. That is what our personal reputation removal service handles.
