Review removal cost with Removal Lab

Written by the Removal Lab team.

Has someone just quoted you to remove a bad review and you have no idea if the price is fair? The honest review removal cost runs from nothing when you report the review yourself to a fee per case with a service like Removal Lab, where you pay only when the content is removed.

There is no standard price. Most companies quote per case and do not publish a price list. Removal Lab does not publish one either, because two reviews that look alike can need very different work. What you can compare is the pricing model, because it decides who carries the risk when the platform says no.

This guide covers the four ways companies charge, what is free and the red flags to avoid. If you would rather hand it over, Removal Lab offers a free confidential case review and there is no upfront payment on qualifying cases.

The quick version: review removal cost

1. Check the review against the platform rules. Reporting it yourself costs nothing.
2. Report it through the official tool. On Google you can appeal once if the report is turned down.
3. If you hire help, ask how they charge: per removal, a flat fee upfront, a monthly retainer or hourly.
4. Get the price per item in writing and ask what counts as removed.
5. Walk away from anyone who promises a removal, offers to pay the platform or sells reviews.

How much does review removal cost?

The review removal cost depends on the route you take more than on the review itself. Platforms do not sell removals. Google, Yelp, Trustpilot and Glassdoor decide on their own rules. You can report a review on each of them yourself. You start paying when you hire a company or a lawyer. Here is the review removal cost by route.

RouteWhat you payWho carries the risk
Report it yourself on the platformNothing but your timeYou, but only your time
Pay per removal service, such as Removal LabA quoted fee per item, charged only once the content is removedThe provider
Flat fee paid upfrontA set fee before any work, whatever the outcomeYou
Monthly retainer or subscriptionA fixed amount every month while the plan runsMostly you
LawyerLegal fees agreed with the lawyer, plus court costs if a court is involvedYou
Paying the reviewer, a fake insider or the platformNever worth itYou. It can break platform rules or the law

Look at the last column. With a flat fee, a refused report still costs you the full amount. With Removal Lab and other pay per removal services, a refused report costs you nothing.

The four pricing models and the risks of each

Almost every review removal service cost you will see fits one of four models.

1. Pay per removal

You pay for each item only once the platform removes it. This is how Removal Lab works. If the case fails, your review removal cost is zero, so the provider has every reason to turn down weak cases early. Ask how removal is proven, how long it must stay down and whether there is a minimum fee.

2. Flat fee paid upfront

You pay a set amount per review before anyone files a report. It looks simple, but you carry all the risk. If the platform says no, the fee is usually gone. Get the refund terms in writing first.

3. Monthly retainer or subscription

You pay every month for ongoing work such as monitoring and replies. It can suit a business with a steady flow of reviews. For one removal it can be the dearest route, because the review removal cost keeps rising while the platform takes its time. Ask for a written scope and the right to stop at any month end.

4. Hourly legal fees

Lawyers usually bill by the hour or agree a set fee for a task. The American Bar Association model rule says a lawyer must not charge an unreasonable fee. Its factors include the time and work needed and how difficult the questions are. It says the scope and basis of the fee should be shared with the client, preferably in writing.

Here is how the models compare on review removal cost and risk.

ModelWhen you payWho carries the riskWatch for
Pay per removalAfter the platform removes the itemThe providerHow removal is proven, minimum fees, what happens if it returns
Flat fee upfrontBefore any work startsYouNo refund when the platform says no
Monthly retainerEvery monthMostly youVague scope, long contracts, no list of reports filed
Hourly legal feesAs time is spent, or a set fee per taskYouNo written estimate, open ended hours

Removal Lab uses pay per removal for removal cases, with nothing to pay if the platform says no. Our pricing page explains how a quote works.

What drives review removal cost up or down

Two businesses can get very different quotes for what looks like the same problem. These six things move the review removal cost.

A fair quote can explain the price in two sentences. Not sure which rule a review breaks? Try our free review check.

What is free: reporting a review yourself

The lowest review removal cost is zero. Every major platform lets a business report a review that breaks its rules. We found no official platform page that mentions a fee for reporting.

Google

Google says only reviews that break its policies are eligible for removal. It also says there is no cost to create a Business Profile. To report a review:

  1. Go to your Business Profile and select Read reviews.
  2. Next to the review, select Report.
  3. Choose a reason, such as spam or profanity.
  4. Select Send report.

You can also use the Reviews Management Tool: select your business, then Report a new review for removal. Google says evaluation typically takes several days. If the status reads Report reviewed, no policy violation, you can send a one time appeal for up to 10 reviews. So the Google review removal cost, if you do it yourself, is your time. See how to remove a Google review.

Yelp

Yelp says it relies on consumers and business owners to report reviews they believe break its policies. It lists reasons such as a review from a competitor or former employee, a paid review or one that is not a first hand experience. Yelp also says advertising has no connection to how its recommendation software treats reviews. So how much does it cost to remove a Yelp review at Yelp itself? Nothing. You cannot buy your way out either. See Yelp review removal.

Trustpilot

Trustpilot says businesses can flag reviews through their business account or its Content Integrity team, even without claiming their profile. Disagreeing with a star rating is not a valid reason. Trustpilot says misuse of the flagging tool is not tolerated. Read Trustpilot review removal before you flag.

Glassdoor

Glassdoor says employers cannot pay to have reviews removed. It warns that some services charge for things like flagging a review, which you can do yourself for free through a Glassdoor account. Keep that in mind when you compare Glassdoor review removal service pricing. See Glassdoor review removal.

How to keep your review removal cost low, step by step

  1. Save the evidence. Copy the review link and take screenshots.
  2. Find the rule it breaks. If you cannot name one, a paid service probably cannot either.
  3. Report it yourself once. Use the official tool above. It costs nothing.
  4. Use the appeal. On Google, send the one time appeal from the Reviews Management Tool. See how to dispute a Google review.
  5. Get two or three written quotes. Ask for the price per item, the model and what happens if the platform says no.
  6. Pay only after you see it gone. Check the platform yourself before you settle a fee charged on results.

How to compare review removal quotes

A low number means little until you know what it covers. Ask every provider these questions in writing.

AskWhy it matters
Is the price per review or per batch?A batch price can charge you for reviews that never come down
Do I pay on filing or on removal?Paying on filing means paying for effort, not a result
What counts as removed and for how long? You want a test you can check yourself
What if the review comes back?Know the answer before you sign
Which policy does each review break?A provider that cannot name the rule is guessing with your money
Any minimum, setup fee or contract length?Extras can double the real review removal cost
Will you contact the reviewer or post reviews? The only safe answer is no

When a lawyer is involved and why it costs more

Some reviews break no platform rule but may still be unlawful, such as a false statement of fact that harms your business. Platforms often need a legal request or a court order before they act on that. That is when a lawyer comes in.

Legal routes raise the review removal cost for simple reasons. A lawyer assesses the statement, writes letters and sometimes files in court. Courts charge their own fees. We do not quote typical legal fees because they vary by lawyer, country and case. We found no official source that sets them.

Check first whether a policy report fits. Some reviews that feel defamatory also break a platform rule, which is far cheaper. See defamation removal. This guide is general information, not legal advice.

Red flags that make a cheap quote expensive

The worst review removal cost is a penalised profile. Walk away if you see any of these.

If someone demands money to stop fake reviews

That is extortion, not a service. Google says do not engage with or pay them. Paying does not mean the reviews come down. Use Google’s merchant extortion report form. See can you pay to remove Google reviews.

A worked example: comparing three quotes

This is a made up example to show the steps. It is not a client case.

Sam runs a bakery. Five Google reviews look like they break the rules. Sam reports and appeals, but they stay up. Three providers send quotes. The figures are made up to show the maths. They are not real prices from Removal Lab or anyone else.

ProviderModelQuoteGoogle removes 2 of 5Cost per review removed
AFlat fee upfront100 per reviewSam pays 500250
BMonthly retainer250 a month, three month minimumSam pays 750375
CPay per removal150 per review, only when removedSam pays 300150

Provider C had the highest price per review on paper and the lowest real review removal cost. It also turned down one review at the start as harsh but genuine. Provider A charged for it anyway.

What if it does not work

Mistakes to avoid

Is it worth paying for review removal?

For one clear case, report it yourself first and keep your review removal cost at zero. Help makes sense when several reviews arrived together, when Google has refused once or when you do not have the hours.

There is no upfront payment on qualifying cases and you pay only when the content is removed. See our Google review removal service or request a case review.

Frequently asked questions

How much does review removal cost?

Review removal cost ranges from nothing when you report a review yourself to a fee per case when you hire a service. Most companies quote per case. At Removal Lab you pay only when the content is removed.

How much does it cost to remove a Google review?

Reporting a Google review yourself costs nothing through your Business Profile or the Reviews Management Tool. A service charges per case. Removal Lab charges only if Google removes the review.

How much does it cost to remove a Yelp review?

Yelp says advertising has no connection to how its software treats reviews, so you cannot pay Yelp to remove one. A service may charge to build the case. Removal Lab charges only when the review is removed.

Is pay per removal better than a flat fee?

For most single reviews, yes. With a flat fee your review removal cost is the same even when the platform says no. With pay per removal the provider carries that risk, which is how Removal Lab works.

Can I pay Google to remove a review?

No. Google warns about people who offer paid help with a Business Profile or claim to be Google employees. Its policy also bans offering payment or other incentives in exchange for removing a negative review.

How much does Glassdoor review removal cost?

Glassdoor says employers cannot pay to have reviews removed and that you can flag a review for free through a Glassdoor account.

Why do review removal companies not publish prices?

Two reviews that look alike can need very different work, so most companies quote per case. Removal Lab does not publish a price list either, but its case review is free.
