Angi review removal with Removal Lab

Written by the Removal Lab team.

A homeowner you never worked for has just left one star on your Angi profile? Angi review removal is possible when a review breaks Angi’s own written rules and Removal Lab can tell you for free whether yours does.

Angi (the company that used to be Angie’s List) decides every case itself. Our job is to read the review against the Reviews Community Guidelines and the Angi Terms of Use, find the rule it breaks and put that in front of Angi with the evidence. The check is free and confidential. On qualifying cases there is no upfront payment. If the review does not qualify, we tell you straight and suggest a better next step.

How Angi review removal works

Angi says it checks feedback before posting it. Every review is meant to follow the Reviews Community Guidelines, which sit under three plain headings: be family friendly, be relevant and respect privacy. Angi also says that it "reserves the right to refuse to post or remove any Review (in its sole discretion)." Its Terms of Use add that Angi may choose to remove or not to remove reviews once they are published.

So Angi review removal is never a vote and never a negotiation. A pro cannot delete a review. Angi’s FAQ also says providers cannot remove their names from Angi, so a business cannot hide poor ratings by leaving. What a pro can do is show Angi that a specific review breaks a specific rule. That is where most disputes win or lose.

One more thing many pros miss. Angi does not accept anonymous reviews. Its FAQ says the reviewer’s name and address are visible to the provider being rated, although the name is not shown publicly. That gives you a real chance to check your own job records before you report anything.

The pending status rule

Angi’s guidelines say: "If a dispute arises between a consumer and professional, the rating submitted may be held in pending status until resolution is reached." In plain words, a live dispute can keep a rating off your profile while it is worked out. It is not a removal. It is a pause. It only helps if you act quickly and with records.

Which Angi reviews can be removed

These are the grounds we use for Angi review removal. Each one comes from Angi’s own published pages. If a review fits none of them, Angi review removal is unlikely, however unfair the review feels.

Angi ruleWhat it looks like on your profileWhere Angi says it
Not a first hand experienceThe reviewer never hired you or describes a job you did not doTerms of Use, Section 7
Self review or affiliated reviewerAn owner, an employee or a rival business rating the companyFAQ: companies cannot rate themselves and reviewers confirm they are not affiliated with or competing against the company
Paid forSomeone was given money or a perk to postTerms of Use, Section 7
Abusive or offensive languageProfanity, obscenity, harassment, hate speech or sexual contentReviews Community Guidelines: be family friendly
About another proThe review attacks a different contractor or compares you with one in a hostile wayReviews Community Guidelines: be relevant
Off topicA rant that has nothing to do with the work requestedReviews Community Guidelines: be relevant
Private informationYour home address, a worker’s phone number or family detailsReviews Community Guidelines: respect privacy
Defamatory or unlawfulFalse statements of fact, threats or content that breaks the lawTerms of Use, Section 7
Links or comments on other usersA hyperlink in the review or an attack on another reviewerTerms of Use, Section 7

The Terms also ask for "thorough and thoughtful" reviews. Angi gives the example that a review saying only that a contractor is great, with nothing else, does not meet that standard. A one word negative review may fall short in the same way. That ground is weaker than the others, so we only use it alongside a stronger rule.

Notice what is missing from the table. "The customer was difficult." "The review is exaggerated." "It is hurting our leads." Those are real problems. They are not Angi rules, so Angi review removal on those grounds does not happen.

How to report a review on Angi yourself

You can start this yourself today. These steps use only what Angi publishes. Angi does not put the pro side dispute buttons on its public pages, so we do not guess them here.

  1. Read the review against the rules. Open the Reviews Community Guidelines and Section 7 of the Terms of Use. Write down the exact rule the review breaks in one sentence.
  2. Check the reviewer against your records. Angi shows providers the reviewer’s name and address. Search your invoices, quotes, calendar and messages for that name and that street.
  3. Use your pro account. Angi Pro Support has an article called "Dispute a Rating" for pros with an account. Sign in and follow the steps Angi gives there.
  4. Report content through Member Support. Angi’s Terms say anyone may report content they believe breaks the Terms of Use or is otherwise unlawful by visiting Member Support.
  5. Answer when Angi asks. Angi says reviewers must allow Angi to contact the pro about the work. If Angi or its complaint resolution team reaches out, reply promptly with facts and documents.
  6. Post a calm reply. Angi’s FAQ says providers can respond to good and bad reviews. A short factual reply protects you while the dispute runs.

Keep every report short. One review, one rule, one piece of proof. Long emotional reports make Angi review removal harder, not easier.

What evidence helps Angi review removal

Angi cannot see inside your business. Evidence is how you let it. For Angi review removal, this is what tends to carry weight for each kind of problem.

The problemEvidence that helpsWhat to leave out
Reviewer never hired youA search of your job records for the name and address Angi shows you, with no matchGuesses about who wrote it
Wrong companyProof the job, date or service described belongs to another businessInsults about the other business
Competitor or former employeePublic links that connect the reviewer to a rival firm or your former staffPrivate messages you were not party to
Paid or incentivised reviewMessages offering a reward in return for the reviewAnything you cannot show
Private informationA screenshot showing the address, phone number or family detailCopies of the private data itself in your report
False statement of factContracts, permits, inspection reports or payment records that contradict the claimA line by line argument about opinions

Dates matter. Save a screenshot of the review with the date showing. Keep the original quote, the signed contract and any change orders together. If a dispute moves into pending status, you want everything ready the same day.

What Angi will not remove

Being honest about this saves you time. Angi review removal will not work for a review that is negative but genuine. A customer who hired you and disliked the result is allowed to say so, in strong words, as long as the words stay within the family friendly rule.

Advertising does not change that. Angi’s FAQ is clear that companies are not obligated to advertise, nor does their decision to advertise affect their ratings or reviews. Buying more leads will not move a review. Neither will closing your profile, because Angi says providers cannot remove their names.

Opinions are also safe on Angi. "Overpriced", "slow" and "would not hire again" are views, not facts. Our page on what we cannot remove explains this across every platform.

How long Angi review removal takes

Angi does not publish a timeline for reviewing a disputed rating. The only timing rule it states is the pending status rule above: a rating may be held until resolution is reached. Anyone who promises you a date is guessing.

What speeds Angi review removal up is preparation. A report that names one rule and attaches one clear document is easier for Angi to decide than a long complaint. We update you at each stage and never invent a date.

What to do if Angi says no

Sometimes the review stays. That is not the end of the road. Here is what still helps after a failed Angi review removal attempt.

Angi review removal for home service pros

Angi is built around home services, so most Angi review removal questions involve trades: roofers, plumbers, electricians, cleaners and remodellers. A common pattern looks like this. A job went wrong, a payment dispute followed and a review arrived in the middle of it. Angi’s pending status rule exists for exactly that moment.

Three habits make Angi review removal far easier when it is needed. Keep a written quote and a signed scope for every job. Photograph the work before and after. Save every message in one place. When a review lands, you can then show in minutes whether the reviewer was a customer and whether the facts hold up.
