Review removal Calgary in one minute

The platform decides, every time. Alberta has its own private sector privacy law, PIPA, with its own regulator, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta. The province also tells consumers they have a right to share their experience in a business review. So review removal Calgary work is about reviews that are fake or break a platform rule, never about silencing a real customer.

Google review removal Calgary: the platforms that matter

A roofer in Saddle Ridge, an engineering firm downtown and a brunch spot on 17th Avenue SW all worry about different websites. Google matters to everyone. After that, trades watch HomeStars, employers watch Indeed and Glassdoor and restaurants still see Yelp. So every review removal Calgary case starts by matching the review to the right rule on the right site. This is what each platform says in its own help pages.

Google is part of almost every review removal Calgary case, whatever the sector. Our Google review removal service page shows how we build those reports. Our guide on how to remove a Google review walks through each screen.

Trades after a storm: HomeStars and Google

Storm season brings work and it brings confusion. Homeowners hire whoever knocks first, then review the wrong company with a similar name. Google says content must reflect a genuine experience. HomeStars goes further: there must have been a financial transaction between the writer and the company, for work done under a written contract. Family members and current or past employees cannot review. Reviews must leave out names, initials, phone numbers, email addresses and private messages. They must also be at least 30 words long and written in English.

HomeStars says it removes reviews at the homeowner’s request, during an investigation or when the writer is an unverified client. It verifies reviews whether they are positive or negative. For trades, review removal Calgary work is mostly paperwork: no contract, no invoice and no job at that address is a strong file. Our review removal for contractors page covers the wider picture.

Energy and head office employers: Indeed and Glassdoor

When a project ends or a team shrinks, the reviews often arrive on job sites, not on Google. Indeed only lets people review companies they work for or have worked for, one review each. It removes reviews that share non public information, name people who are not public figures or claim illegal activity. Glassdoor is firmer. It says it generally does not take sides in factual disagreements, that employers cannot pay to have reviews removed and that it does not remove reviews because of their age. It also declines evidence from anyone with a vested interest in a removal. For employers, review removal Calgary work usually means proving a rule was broken, not arguing about tone. See our Indeed and Glassdoor pages for the routes.

Restaurants and cafes: Yelp and Google

Kensington, Inglewood and the Beltline run on walk in trade, so a cluster of fake reviews hurts fast. Yelp lists the reviews a business should report: a reviewer who appears to be a competitor or former employee, an apparent conflict of interest, a review about someone else’s experience, private information about staff or patrons, threats and hate speech. In hospitality, review removal Calgary cases often turn on dates: a review about a night you were closed or a dish you have never served is worth checking. Our page on review removal for restaurants and hotels covers the hospitality sites in more depth.

Alberta law behind review removal Calgary cases

Platforms act on their own rules. Alberta law matters in two places that are easy to miss: your own replies and your own contracts. Nothing here is legal advice. Removal Lab is not a law firm.

PIPA and the Alberta privacy commissioner

Alberta has its own private sector privacy law, the Personal Information Protection Act, known as PIPA. The Government of Alberta’s guide says it covers all private sector organisations in Alberta, including individuals acting in a commercial capacity. Organisations must get consent to collect, use or disclose personal information, with limited exceptions. The guide also lists what PIPA does not cover, including an individual’s use of information for personal or domestic purposes and health information covered by the Health Information Act.

Federal law steps back here. A federal exemption order says organisations covered by PIPA are exempt from Part 1 of PIPEDA for personal information collected, used or disclosed within Alberta. So for review removal Calgary cases, PIPA mostly governs you, not the reviewer. The classic mistake is a reply that names the customer, quotes their invoice or describes their visit. Keep replies general and keep records inside the business.

If a business, not a private reviewer, has exposed someone’s personal information, the route is the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta. Its site says you must first raise the complaint with the organisation and allow at least 30 business days for a reply. Then you can use its PIPA complaint form. There is no charge. The office says it cannot issue monetary awards or fines. It also warns that a backlog means it may take several months to open a file. That is why, in review removal Calgary cases, the platform route is usually faster.

The right to post a review and what it means for you

The Government of Alberta’s Consumer Bill of Rights lists a consumer’s right to share information about their transaction in the form of a business review. It also lists the right to make a complaint to Service Alberta. The Legislative Assembly’s copy of Bill 31, A Better Deal for Consumers and Businesses Act, shows where this sits in the Consumer Protection Act. It adds section 183.1, which says a business shall not include a provision in a consumer transaction that prohibits the consumer from publishing a review of the business or transaction.

The same section says no claim lies against a person for loss caused by a negative review about a supplier, unless the review is malicious, vexatious, harassing or otherwise made in bad faith. That is the text of the bill as the Legislative Assembly published it, so ask an Alberta lawyer to confirm the current wording before you rely on it.

Two practical points follow for review removal Calgary clients. First, take any “no negative reviews” wording out of your quotes and contracts. Second, an honest bad review is not something to sue over. A malicious or bad faith review is a different matter. Even then, the place to start is the platform. The Ontario and BC anti SLAPP rules on our other pages are provincial laws and do not decide a claim in Alberta. Our defamation removal page explains when the legal route is worth paying for.

What evidence Calgary businesses usually hold

Most review removal Calgary cases are won or lost on records you already keep. Trades hold quotes, signed contracts, invoices and dated job photos. Employers hold start and end dates and the list of people who ever worked there. Restaurants hold reservations, closure notices and till records. Clinics hold booking calendars.

You do not need to send us any of that. Under PIPA those records stay in the business. You run the check, then tell us the result, for example “no contract or payment under this name or address”. We turn that into a review removal Calgary report that matches the platform’s rule. Our fake review removal page explains the patterns platforms look for. Fake review removal Alberta businesses ask about follows the same evidence rules.

A worked example: a Bridgeland roofing company after a hailstorm

This is a made up example to show the steps. It is not a client case.

Here is how a review removal Calgary case can play out. A family roofing company in Bridgeland is fully booked after a summer hailstorm. In one week three reviews appear. The first is a Google review about a crew that took a deposit and vanished. The company has never quoted that address. A door to door firm with a similar name was working the same streets. The second is a HomeStars review from a name with no contract and no payment on file. The third is a Google review that calls the owner a crook and gives his home street.

ReviewRule it may breakWhat the company sends
Google review about the vanished crewGoogle: content must reflect a genuine experienceA note that no quote, contract or payment exists for that address
HomeStars review with no contractHomeStars: a financial transaction under a written contract is requiredConfirmation that no contract or payment exists under that name
Google review calling the owner a crookGoogle: unsubstantiated allegations of criminal wrongdoing, plus personal informationThe exact words quoted. Nothing else

Removal Lab files the two Google reports and keeps Google’s one time appeal for any review Google turns down. The HomeStars review goes to HomeStars. While checking its paperwork, the company also finds an old quote template that says customers agree not to post negative reviews. It deletes that clause. If a platform agrees a rule was broken, the review comes down and the company pays then. If all three stay up, it owes nothing. That is review removal Calgary work done honestly.

Can Removal Lab get a Google review removed for a Calgary business?

Does Removal Lab have an office in Calgary?

No. Removal Lab serves Calgary remotely from its offices in New York and in Toronto at 100 King St W. Most cases need no call at all.

Which privacy law applies to Calgary businesses?

Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act, known as PIPA, overseen by the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta. A federal order exempts organisations covered by PIPA from Part 1 of PIPEDA for activity within Alberta.

Can a Calgary business stop customers from posting negative reviews?

No. Alberta’s Consumer Bill of Rights lists a consumer’s right to share their experience in a business review. Bill 31 added a section to the Consumer Protection Act barring contract terms that prohibit publishing a review.

How do I complain to the Alberta privacy commissioner?

Raise it in writing with the organisation first and allow at least 30 business days for a reply. If that fails, use the OIPC PIPA complaint form. There is no charge.

Can HomeStars remove a review from someone who never hired us?

HomeStars requires a financial transaction under a written contract and says it removes reviews written by unverified clients. A record showing no contract or payment is the evidence that helps.
