Casetext removal with Removal Lab

Written by the Removal Lab team.

Searched your name and found an old casetext.com link to your court case? Casetext removal today is mostly about Google, not Casetext: Thomson Reuters bought Casetext, its own site no longer appears to show case pages and the record itself lives with the court that decided it. Removal Lab checks every copy of your case for free, tells you which route fits and prepares the requests, with no upfront payment on qualifying cases. Google, the sites and the courts make the decisions.

An old case can feel like it follows you everywhere, even when it ended years ago or never said much about you. This Casetext removal guide explains what we could and could not confirm, how to clear a stale result from Google and when the court is the only place that can help.

Short answer: Casetext removal

1. Click the old Casetext result. If it no longer shows your case, use Google’s Refresh outdated content tool.
2. If a Casetext page still shows your case, Thomson Reuters says it changes legal content only after a verified request from the source, such as a court order.
3. The record itself sits with the court. Sealing, expungement and redaction happen there.
4. Copies may sit on Justia, CourtListener, UniCourt and other sites. Each has its own process.
5. Google may remove a page that shows ID numbers, bank details or your contact details.

Here are the key facts of Casetext removal, with where each one comes from.

What happened to Casetext?

Casetext was a legal technology company. Its site carried court opinions, which is how some people still find their name on a casetext.com result in Google. Thomson Reuters announced that it had bought Casetext and described its main product, CoCounsel, as an AI legal assistant.

We tried to open casetext.com while writing this page so we could read its current terms and help pages. Each time it showed only a security check screen and no case pages, terms or help pages loaded. Several legal technology sites report that the standalone Casetext site was retired and now sends visitors to Thomson Reuters. We could not confirm that from Casetext itself, so treat it as reported, not official.

What this means for Casetext removal is simple. If the old link no longer shows your case, the problem is a stale Google result, which Google has a tool for. If the link still shows your case, the request goes to Thomson Reuters. Either way, the court is the only place that can change the record.

How to remove court records from Casetext search results

Most people searching how to remove court records from Casetext really want the Google result gone. Casetext removal starts with finding out what the link does today.

  1. Copy the exact link from Google. Google’s help page says to right click the link in the search result and choose Copy Link Address, not to copy the address shown in the result or in your browser bar.
  2. Open it in a private window. Note whether it still shows your case, shows a different page or shows an error.
  3. Save proof. Take a screenshot of the Google result and of what the link shows now.
  4. Pick the route. If your case is gone from the page, use the Refresh outdated content tool below. If your case is still there, go to the section on pages that still show your case.
  5. Check the other copies. Search your name with the case number. The same opinion may sit on several other sites.

Casetext removal when the page is gone: Google’s refresh tool

Google’s Refresh outdated content help page says the tool is for pages you do not own that no longer exist or are significantly different from the version Google shows. It also says the tool does not remove a page from the web. That fits an old Casetext result well when the link no longer shows your case.

  1. Sign in to a Google account. Google says this is required to prevent abuse.
  2. Open the Refresh outdated content tool and paste the Casetext link you copied from the result.
  3. Select Submit. If Google finds the page still exists, it asks for more information, such as one or two words from the old snippet that are no longer on the live page.
  4. Watch the status in the list at the bottom of the tool: Pending, Approved, Denied, Expired or Cancelled.
  5. If the same case shows under more than one Casetext address, send a request for each one.

Google says processing can take a few days. If a request for a page that no longer exists is approved, Google says the page will no longer appear in Search results. Google’s help page does not explain how it treats a link that now opens a different page, so check the result yourself after the request is approved. Our guide to the refresh tool walks through every screen.

If a Casetext page still shows your case

We found no Casetext removal form. The Thomson Reuters privacy statement has a section called the Informational Content Privacy Statement. It covers the legal content Thomson Reuters distributes, including court cases and opinions. It does not name Casetext, so read it as the company’s general approach.

That section says Thomson Reuters is often not the original source of this content. It tells people with concerns about their personal information in the content to contact the source and work with them directly. It says the company is not obliged to change or delete the original content unless it receives a verified request from the source. It gives a court order from the court that issued the case as an example.

So a Casetext removal request without a court order may get nowhere. With one, you have something Thomson Reuters itself names. The same privacy statement lists a privacy request portal and an email address for privacy enquiries. Keep your request short, include each link and attach the order.

The court record and the copies are not the same thing

This is where Casetext removal often goes wrong. A court case exists in two places: the official record held by the court and copies published by sites such as Casetext, Justia, CourtListener and UniCourt. Each layer changes in a different way.

LayerWho controls itHow it changes
The court recordThe courtSealing, expungement or redaction under court rules
Copies on case law and docket sitesEach siteEach site’s own policy. Justia and Thomson Reuters both point to court orders
Google resultsGoogleGoogle’s own removal policies and tools

A court order does not travel by itself. Florida’s law enforcement agency says privately operated websites are not subject to an expungement order and that people need to contact those companies directly. Send a copy to every site that shows the case, then clear each Google result.

For federal cases, Rule 5.2 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure says that, unless the court orders otherwise, filings should show only the last four digits of a Social Security or taxpayer number, the year of birth, a minor’s initials and the last four digits of a financial account number. A court can order more redaction for good cause. If an opinion or filing shows more than that, ask a lawyer about raising it with the court.

Our court record removal page explains the court side in more depth.

Please speak to a lawyer

This page is general information, not legal advice. Sealing, expungement and court privacy rules differ by court and by state. A lawyer, a legal aid office or your court’s self help centre can tell you what applies to your case.

Google routes for private details in a court case

Even when a site keeps a case online, Google may remove the result for some details. This part of Casetext removal works the same way on every site. Google’s personal information policy covers contact details, Social Security and tax ID numbers, bank account and card numbers, pictures of a signature or ID, private records such as medical records and confidential usernames and passwords. Google says it can only remove things from Google Search results, so the page may still exist elsewhere. See how to remove personal information from Google.

Google’s Results about you tool handles your phone number, home address and email. Google says it considers some results valuable to the public and won’t remove results for pages owned by government or educational institutions or by newspapers. A court website will usually fall in that group. See how to use Results about you.

Other places your case may appear

Casetext removal covers one site. Your case may also appear in these places.

What to do if Casetext removal does not clear the result

What Removal Lab can and cannot do for Casetext removal

We can find every page that shows your case, on old Casetext links and elsewhere. We check each one against the site’s own policy and Google’s rules, prepare the Thomson Reuters request with you and file the Google requests that fit. The check is free and confidential. On qualifying cases there is no upfront payment and you pay only when the content is removed. Our removal cost guide explains how pricing works.

We cannot delete a court record, change a court file, give legal advice or promise an outcome. We do not work for Thomson Reuters, Casetext, Google or any court. See what we cannot remove and how to remove your name from Google. When you are ready, start a free case review.

A worked example

This is a made up example to show the steps. It is not a client case.

A landlord searches his name and sees an old casetext.com result for a tenancy appeal as the third result. He clicks it in a private window and the case no longer loads.

He starts his Casetext removal by copying the link from the Google result with a right click. He sends it through the Refresh outdated content tool. Two days later he checks the status. While he waits, he finds the same opinion on two other case law sites and sends each one its own request. He also asks a lawyer whether the case can be sealed, so he has an order to send if a site asks for one.

How Removal Lab works

  1. Send the link. WhatsApp, email or the two field form. Two minutes, no long questionnaire.
  2. Free policy check. A specialist reads it against the platform rules and tells you honestly whether it qualifies.
  3. We build and file the case. The right policy, the right channel, the evidence attached. We handle the appeal too.
  4. Pay only when it is gone. No upfront payment on qualifying cases. If the platform says no, you owe nothing.

Frequently asked questions

What is Casetext removal?

Casetext removal means getting an old Casetext page about your court case out of Google. Casetext belongs to Thomson Reuters and its own site no longer appears to show case pages, so most of the work happens in Google and at the court that holds the record.

Does Casetext still show court cases?

When we checked, casetext.com showed only a security check screen and no case pages, terms or help pages loaded. Legal technology sites report that the standalone Casetext site was retired after Thomson Reuters bought it. Click your own result to see what it shows today.

How do I remove court records from Casetext?

If the old Casetext link no longer shows your case, ask Google to drop the result with its Refresh outdated content tool. If a page still shows the case, Thomson Reuters says it is not obliged to change legal content unless it gets a verified request from the source, such as a court order from the court that issued the case.

Is there a Casetext removal form?

We found no Casetext removal form. The Thomson Reuters privacy statement lists a privacy portal and email for privacy requests and tells people with concerns about legal content to contact the source of that content.

Will Casetext removal delete the court record?

No. The record sits with the court. Only the court can seal, expunge or redact it. That happens under court rules that differ by state.

How long does Casetext removal from Google take?

Google says processing a Refresh outdated content request can take a few days. If it approves a request for a page that no longer exists, Google says the page will no longer appear in Search results.

What if Google denies my Casetext removal request?

Open the reason linked in the tool. Check that the address you sent matches the result exactly, including capital letters. Then send a request for every version of the address that appears.

Does an expungement order remove my case from Casetext and other sites?

Not by itself. Florida’s law enforcement agency says privately operated websites are not subject to an expungement order, so you need to send a copy of the order to each site.

Can Google remove a Casetext page that shows my Social Security number?

Google’s personal information policy covers Social Security and tax ID numbers, bank account and card numbers and pictures of a signature or ID. Google says it can only remove things from Google Search results, so the copy may still exist elsewhere.

Is my case also on Justia or CourtListener?

It may be. Court opinions and filings are copied by several sites and each one has its own process, so search your name and case number on each and deal with them one by one.

How much does Casetext removal cost with Removal Lab?

The case check is free and confidential. On qualifying cases there is no upfront payment and you pay only when the content is removed.

Can Removal Lab delete my Casetext page?

No. Removal Lab cannot delete anything and does not work for Thomson Reuters, Google or any court. We find every copy, prepare the requests that fit and follow them up.
